A few times I was noticed looking, there were whispers and I heard someone say something like "pedo" and it made me paranoid. I learned to not stand out.

It's not about pedophiles, it's about children, they do not want to see children as sexual beings and fight against it. They also, therefore, fight pedophiles for the "crime" of knowing about child sexuality.
