Yes, it's done on purpose. When I hear someone talking about a '17-year-old child ,' I want to ask, 'Can she feed herself yet?' Of course they do it to paint a certain mental image, usually to suggest helplessness. People who use their words in this way are trying to manipulate their audience... and ...
