A teenager sex offender found in possession of indecent images and videos of children has been jailed.

T-Jay McKnight had more than 700 files in his sick haul of content discovered following a raid of his former Irvine home.

The 18-year-old appeared for sentencing at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court this week having previously pleaded guilty to one charge.

McKnight, most recently of Barrie Terrace in Ardrossan, admitted to being in possession of the illicit photographs and videos between April 27, 2023 and March 4 last year. He was aged 16 at the time.

Since this is Scotland, it's worth pointing out — at 16 years old it was completely legal for him to have sex with anyone he wants. However it would not have been legal for him to send any photos of himself to the people he had sex with, because Scotland also considers 16-17 child porn.

So a 16 year old boy could have sex with his 16 year old girlfriend, but he would technically be in possession of child pornography and susceptible to criminal liability if she were to send him a topless photo.

He's being charged for being in possession of illegal and "harmful" images at an age where an image of him would have been illegal and "harmful".
