If you repeat a lie often enough, then eventually people will believe it to be "the truth," no matter how ridiculous the lie might be. You see it with the "everything under 18 is wrong" fallacy, even though there's zero evidence of that, which the politicians know themselves. Therefore, the age of consent is different and contradictory everywhere you go, but the lie about the age of consent has been repeated so much that people just believe it, even though the lie is inconsistent and false
