Problem accessing MU & Newgon

Post by mrlolicon93 »

I am having an issue accessing this site and Newgon.

They seem to work fine on Tor and Proxy but do not load in a normal internet browser.

Is this because of the DDOs attacks that have been happening or do ISPs block access to these sites?

When i try to access MU & Newgon in a normal browser it says Hmmmm..... Can't reach this page.

What should i do?

That’s weird because I’m using Safari on mobile and the site works fine for me now.

For now, I guess, keep using Tor or VPN.

We'll ask sysadmin to take a look.

There seems to be an issue going on with the user control panel section because every time i try to change my avatar the site crashes and becomes inaccessible.

Will you please look into this?

You are right. My guess is that the system used as anti-DDOS is too primitive and if the server receive too many requests it simply block the IP for a week or less. The problem is that the software itself - phpbb - could be the responsible for this, as it also make many requests or requests that take too long on the client side and then the web server ban users as a collateral effect.

My mitigation: Use an extension like NoScript (it comes with tor browser if you want, but you can also install in other browsers), add a custom config on per-site-permission (forum.map-union.org) and block everything that is non essential. I would say:
Unmark:
  • script
  • wasm
  • webgl
  • fetch
  • ping
  • lazy load
  • LAN
My complaint: This is a problem old as late October. There more complaints beyond the one made on this thread, but many of them are related to the same problem. I know I'm not paying for anything to protest and I know that everything here is made voluntarily, but this is a MAP organization that exists almost exclusively as an Internet organization. If we forget to plug the machines, there's nothing left.

Now there's also a DNS problem on yesmap.net as well
