The thing about "statutory rape" is that you'll be imprisoned for consensual sex, so if you're automatically treated as a villain no matter what you do, then why not just embrace the villain and become an actual rapist? The law doesn't care and will give you the same prison sentence anyway. Note that I'm not encouraging sexual violence; I'm just trying to make a point

It’s a bit like when people call for rape to be punished with the same penalties as murder: in practice, at a certain point it would be in the rapist’s interest to kill the victim. Clearly, proportionality in sentencing has its usefulness in discouraging the escalation of such scenarios.
