It makes me laugh quite a bit as a statement, because it implies that until just the other day the digital world wasn’t the Wild West. It always has been: it self-regulated, and that period was the golden age of the internet. Then came those who wanted to turn it into a business. Then regulations piled on top of regulations, and the trend toward more and more regulation just keeps going. I hate it when emergencies are invented just to push even further toward freedom-restricting measures.

Out of pure spite, I’d push to redirect all traffic through Tor and [BANNED TEXT] sites, encouraging as a best practice rather than buying a VPN the purchase of a VPS to make available as a node.

They don’t want minors using social media? Fine: they’ll use darknet social media instead.

On some level I hope this unprecedented crackdown is going to radicalize a new generation of youth liberationists over the coming decades, but the way this has spread is horrifying

In the UK Porn websites with little moderation that refuse to comply with UK age verification laws are having increased traffic because children and especially teens are still searching for porn online

The number of average daily visits to Pornhub fell from 3.2 million in July to 2 million in the first nine days of August.

However, the data also showed that some smaller and less well regulated pornography sites saw visits increase.

A spokesperson for Pornhub told the BBC: "As we've seen in many jurisdictions around the world, there is often a drop in traffic for compliant sites and an increase in traffic for non-compliant sites."
