As many of you senior members of the MAP community must be aware of by now, is the lack of money. Whether it's for funding the legal defence of our people who got in legal trouble, financially supporting our activist efforts, or just financially sustaining online media projects or forums, MAPs don't have much money to spare, whether it's a legal tender or crypto, we face financial burdens very often. So, how do we offset that?
One way is to get a username capable of rolling out cash for our projects or sustaining media operations. Back on pedi, I once suggested reaching out to rich expats or retirees who might be sympathetic or ideologically adjacent to our causes, and turn them into the main providers of trust funds and other services useful for the MAP community, given that they might be more willing to throw spare cash at us and they would be the kind of people willing to spend crypto on MAP activism. Because I don't foresee George Soros or any other billionaire funding us via their non-profits, so we'll have to work with whatever we can, and expats or rich retirees will be the richest people that might be more inclined to our cause.
Another way would be to get MAPs to become financially independent to the best of their abilities, and ideally that would via the kind of job that doesn't have any barrier entry, and one that can be done everywhere as long as a stable internet connection is present. Day trading comes to mind, although there are many risks to it.
So, do you guys have any idea/s on how to remedy the financial woes plaguing the MAP community?

Re: Getting money and funds
Your post is about two different topics, or actually four.
1. What projects to spend money on?
We certainly can always do more. You vaguely mention some fields which might be a problem money wise or not. The bigger concern from my POV is the lack of people. We all have a real life, and can't spend too many hours a week on MAP related topics. And if someone is willing to participate in a project, do we know enough about them to trust them to expedite the project without second thoughts? That's the problem with "We". We're just a bunch of people who've more or less known each other by nickname for some time.
This is an even bigger topic when considering the fact that different people might like to support different projects, so agreeing on projects in a group can become tricky. Would there need to be a council?
2. Where to get money from?
I'd say that most projects in the past and present have (had) people with enough funds to support them. Otherwise there would be nothing today. You mention some groups which might be open to fund projects. You are right that it more often will be retirees who don't have to lose anything but are willing to share their money for a cause. Someone around the peak of their career would risk their reputation or personal life if they were found to be funding MAPs. Someone who is still dreaming of having a young friend (or actually has one) will most probably lay down and not send money anywhere.
3. How to transfer and store money?
This is the tricky and crucial part. Money flows can be followed and accounted for. Maybe less if it is crypto. If we wanted to have a fund for legal defenses, we'd need someone to store that money. In their personal bank account? Under the pillow? Eventually they'd have to come forward to pay a lawyer for this service, or a provider for a server, or whatever. This opens vectors for ill meaning parties to identify activists and expose them, or to collect intel for whatever reasons.
Another crucial issue is trust. We'd need to trust someone to administer funds for us correctly. Trust and reputation is a rare thing that can only be earned over some time. With a company we'd have accounting to ensure correct inflow and outflow of money. So, a legal non-profit organization might be a solution which again poses the problems in personnel.
4. Personal income
But yeah, this could become a project by its own, supporting (young) fellow MAPs in starting their adult life.

It's our own and genuine task to get a sufficiently good education, find a job we like, and make a living which is enough, or more than enough. There are challenges which have hindered some of us, true. Still it's our own responsibility. Day trading which you mention above is a challenging activity which often only benefits a few. You also cover this topic in https://forum.map-union.org/viewtopic.php?t=232 a second time which actually reads like an ad.Another way would be to get MAPs to become financially independent to the best of their abilities, and ideally that would via the kind of job that doesn't have any barrier entry, and one that can be done everywhere as long as a stable internet connection is present. Re: Getting money and funds
I know, but the thread you linked is supposed to be more general as its purpose will function more as a mega thread for people talking about economics and advice in general. This other thread here that I started, on the other hand, is geared more towards strategising and getting ways on how to fund projects, get people to network more, and ultimately provide viable advice for young MAPs. I though starting these threads since finance and economics are seldom discussed in the MAP community.lightseeker wrote: ↑Sun Sep 01, 2024 11:44 am Your post is about two different topics, or actually four.

While theoretical discussions are good and all, what is also crucial is getting young MAPs to have as much financial stability as they can get. As a small disconnected group of anons, we can't do much other than give advice to entrees, so this is crucial. Hopefully, this also serves as another form of community-bonding, as members help each other out in times of needs.
But yes, you do touch on a good point that I omitted, mainly on how the main issues with pro-MAP projects are the lack of reliability and trust in certain participants, as well as how setting up a legal defence fund for unjustly-convicted MAPs requires direct and traceable payments even with crypto.

Re: Getting money and funds
1. Many maps do have some disposable income to donate.
Like many people I try to give at least 10% of my income to good causes and that has included map projects when there's been a call for help. I think if there was a trustworthy place for regular giving then I would do so.
2. Multisig wallet
For those of us who love crypto then I think if a group of trustworthy maps came together to manage a fund using a multisig or smart wallet then I'd be happy to regularly send some tips to it. Support a few networks, collect crypto and use it wisely. Those signatories of the wallet would choose what to spend funds on. I love the idea of a DAO being created for MAPs to manage a fund. Anyone could apply for a grant from the fund and the DAO members would vote on whether to support it. But it would need thinking through as to how to do it as safely and effectively as possible.
3. Trade and invest
If you know what you're doing you can make a good return on crypto investments. Provide liquidity to DEX's and earn fees, run trading bots, just buy and hodl.
4. Build income generating projects
There are a few struggling open source startup projects desperate for help and if they were implemented they could make a seriously big return. But it doesn't have to be technology, it could be anything. Or provide expertise and consultancy or recruitment services. Heck you could be a specialist recruiter helping people with convictions or focus on niche industries that are under supported by recruitment, make a percentage of their contract earnings or a recruitment fee.

Re: Getting money and funds
So there might be some of you willing to help a fellow MAP. I am struggling financially, I could use a help-up.
But more than that, I have this business startup idea that I am confident will do well. It will give one day all MAPs access to a future to fight. One year after I opened my doors I would look for researchers, writers, and additional investors into several MAP and not-so-MAP-related projects.
Please write me if you are interested.
My one project has this revenue potential. Add $30 per hour, 16-hour days, 20 service areas, and 365.25 (One year)..... When you multiply all that together that is the revenue potential. If you take the see how much it increases when you change the $30, In plan to have a base charge of $50.
If that excites you, and you have the means please let me know in which way you would be able to help me. Any good programers on here, Maybe help me with a crowdfunding campaign.

MAP Forum cannot be the host for private communications, but you can share contact details as long as nothing sensitive is divulged in the process.
