My issue with all these states putting the death penalty on the table is it could actually make it worse. If the abuser knows the death penalty is an option, who's to say they won't take the chance of killing the child and dispose of the body? Sort of a "kill the witness" frame of thought.

That's true. Also, I think harsher sentences contribute to this climate where abuse gets underreported. Who is going to snitch and potentially kill someone? Not everyone is in this frame of mind ("sex offenders deserve to die").

Yep! More places are getting on board with this idea, and it's going to mean more murder. SO much for caring about children...humanity as we know it will go extinct before too long.

Yep! More places are getting on board with this idea, and it's going to mean more murder. SO much for caring about children...humanity as we know it will go extinct before too long.

That was actually the exact kind of reasoning behind the child murder that resulted in the last execution by gas chamber in the US up until that form of execution started to gain traction again recently.

Not to mention if the one convicted was a minor. Some places say lewd conduct with anyone under 12 or 13, so what if the one convicted IS still a minor? Scary thing about states ;legalizing death penalty for this is I had lots of nightmares about it in middle school throughout college!
