Cass County man kills self before child indecency trial

A Naples man killed himself ahead of a trial for child indecency charges, according to the Cass County District Attorney’s Office.

Kristopher Glynn Smith, 44, was set for trial on Tuesday morning. But at about 7:15 a.m., the Cass County Pretrial Services Department received an alert that Smith had cut off his ankle monitor, according to a press release.

Smith appeared to be traveling away from his home and law enforcement learned Smith would attempt to commit suicide by cop.

Authorities pinged Smith’s phone and responded to a location near his home. His property was searched and officers spoke to relatives on scene. Law enforcement learned of another phone used by Smith and they were able to track him to the Cornett/Marietta area.

Around 8:30 p.m., as officers were converging on Smith’s location, he killed himself, according to the press release.

Texas Rangers are investigating the death.

Thursday, police and investigators went to the home to serve a search warrant on the allegations just before 4 p.m.

A woman holding a child answered the door. While officers were outside talking to her, they heard a gunshot. Police escorted her and the child out of the home and to safety. Neither of them were harmed.

Yet no one is going to bother about the suicide.........................so sad that even suicide isn't seen as a sign that this is abusive.
