The Child and Adolescent Protection Department of Canoas arrested the man on Thursday morning (26); many of the images had religious symbols, explains the delegate.
The Civil Police arrested a businessman on Thursday morning (26) in a condominium in the Fátima neighborhood of Canoas, after finding files he kept stored with thousands of photographs and videos of pedophilia.
According to the Child and Adolescent Protection Department (DPCA) of Canoas, more than 200 thousand files were found, a number that makes the 37-year-old man the largest file-storer ever found in the state. According to police officer Maurício Barison, the investigation lasted approximately nine months and indicated that the suspect downloaded files from the internet and stored them on various devices, such as notebooks and external HDs, in order to make it difficult to locate them.
“What caught our attention was the significant amount of files and the grotesque profile of the images and videos, many of which even involved sexual abuse of newborns, babies and children,” he explained. The police officer also describes that many of the images had religious symbols. At the scene, technicians from the General Institute of Forensics (IGP) began digital scans of the devices that the suspect kept in the apartment where he lived at around 6 am and only finished at 11 am.
Barison recalls that the DPCA in Canoas had already arrested, on August 27, a man in Torres who, according to what was discovered at the time, was the biggest sharer of child porn, but the amount of material found this Thursday was nothing compared to the amount of material. “The arrest was undoubtedly the biggest storer of CP in Rio Grande do Sul,” he says. According to the IGP, more than 205 GB of stored material was found on the suspect.
“We did not find him through a complaint,” he emphasizes. “It was a complex investigation into a case that is still being analyzed and may have repercussions if some type of abuse is discovered in the condominium.” The suspect’s residence was photographed and analyzed to verify, during the course of the investigation, whether any of the pedophilic scenes were filmed or performed there.

According to Barison, in addition to the 200,000 files seized, another 160 GB of content were sent to the General Institute of Forensics (IGP) for extraction and analysis. "Without a doubt, the largest repository of pedophilia content in Rio Grande do Sul was arrested," he said. The police also reported that the suspect's residence was photographed so that the authorities could determine whether any of the pedophilia scenes were recorded there.
The man was sent to the Prison System Management Center (Nugesp).
