INTERPOL, together with the 2nd Assistant Prosecutor's Office in La Matanza, worked to defeat an online pedophile group operating throughout South America. In recent days, the operation took a major step with the arrest of 144 people, while 22 victims were rescued. Among the prisoners and the minors were Argentines, one of whom was the leader of a group and is currently under arrest. The investigation began months ago, specifically in May. An operation called "Orion International", which began with alerts from the Public Prosecutor's Office of Buenos Aires and the Metropolitan Cybercrime Investigative Brigade of Chile; it also had the help of other countries involved such as Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay and Venezuela.

According to INTERPOL's website: "18 direct aggressors were arrested, 111 people were charged with possession and distribution of abusive content, and seven people wanted internationally for sexual crimes against minors were arrested, who were the subject of INTERPOL red notices." They also detailed that among the detainees are men ranging from 14 to 86 years old, including professionals such as graphic designers, psychologists, security guards, journalists, mechanics, teachers and taxi drivers.
An Argentine man operated within the network, who was the administrator of a website that disseminated images of minors. In January 2020, the man created a group on the Telegram application called RED 313. To be part of this group, the men had to follow rules agreed upon in advance. First, they had to prove that they were authentic producers, that is, that they themselves were the ones filming the minors, who were required to be under 13 years old.

The victims were usually close relatives or the daughters of these men. In a previous investigation, two people from that group were arrested for pedophilia, however the leader of the gang was missing, who was arrested in the last few hours. The prosecutors of the Assistant Prosecutor's Office No. 2 of La Matanza discovered that he operated in Buenos Aires, and not seeing the man's face in any audiovisual material, they decided to focus on the face of the 9-year-old girl, who appears in more than 200 photo and video files, where different types of abuse were shown, and that is how they found the Facebook profile of the minor's parents.

Two searches were immediately approved, one of them in the girl's house, where each room was observed, in which they found items that appeared in the videos, such as sheets and clothes. They also seized electronic devices, where they found the material that ends up accusing the man, whose identity remains protected.

Following significant progress in Operation Orion International, INTERPOL Secretary General Jürgen Stock said: "This operation, and the horrific cases it revealed, remind us once again that child abusers come from all walks of life. This international initiative has brought children who have known nothing but abuse all their lives to safety and prevented their continued exploitation," he said on the official website.
"INTERPOL will continue to work with all member countries as part of our ongoing and essential efforts to protect the most vulnerable members of society."
