I wonder why one earth anybody would not be given an explanation as to why they have been banned. Has anybody bothered to ask after getting accepted back>Outis wrote: ↑Tue Sep 03, 2024 3:10 pm Don't worry, I think everyone gets banned from VoA at one point or another without warning or explanation, it's like walking through a minefield on VoA.
It's a great community and the leadership themselves are good and its been around a long time so must be doing something well, there's just always been this wierd aspect to VoA where people vanish from the board only to announce that they were banned without explanation or reason. Maybe it's personality clashes, I've sometimes wondered if it's just to keep the board load and messaging stats down.

Personally, it doesn't matter if they unbanned me. The community rubbed me the wrong way. The only things which might get me to go back would either be penalizing several users which haven't actually broken any site rules or a sincere apology that reflects an understanding of what those users did wrong, neither of which is likely to happen. I tired of trying so hard to get along with people; if there's too much of a personality clash between me and members of a community I just move on. The point is, it's as much a community problem as a moderation one; I don't vibe with them and they don't vibe with me.Lennon72 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 1:31 amI wonder why one earth anybody would not be given an explanation as to why they have been banned. I know they don't delete accounts to avoid impersonation, if that's what you mean.
If you mean there's a lot of overlap between VoA and other MAP communities, I also know that.
Even if I was unbanned, there's whole swath of members I don't get along with, so there's no real reason to return anyway. I'm a square peg in a round hole over there.

They'll delete accounts sometimes. They try not to because its history is vast and its content is epic. VoA is a very old place, over the years lots of accounts have been deleted, not just moved to some hidden invisible forum space for admins, but actually deleted for all time, gone for good.
It could happen!
It's a place for special people, elite type GLs, vetted for intelligence, knowledge, charm. I am no expert, haven't seen inside for 5 years, I'm only guessing. All I know is that VoA has got the cutest avatars & sig pics I've ever seen before, anywhere. I miss that.

It shows. While there might be a few mistakes, they're good at filtering out those qualities. On there, there are many exemplars of people lacking all three.
I guess what they say about pedophiles having a lower IQ is true if contrarianism passes for intelligence and condescension for charm on VoA.
At the end of the day it's a clique. If an older member is obnoxious to a newer member, they will side with the older member by default.
I'll grant them, they're good at acting like a circlejerk is something to aspire to. Maybe they even believe it themselves.
Over all, a consistently disappointing place in my experience.

I've found VoA quite intelligent and very welcoming. However, I mostly post in the Activism forum, and talk with more senior members.

just kidding. no it's true VoA is a masterpiece and should be recognized as such. i say this even though they stole my job at Alice FM radio TV! gave away my job to some other schmuck. lucky bastard.
just because they banned you porcelain... i can see why they did now.
just kidding again. i try to be funny and tell stupid jokes when i'm nervous.
it's not worth it for me, the beautiful girls are nice & some of the people are wonderful, but the awkwardness of intimidation & lack of acceptance leaves me feeling drained & unsatisfied. I miss the keegmeister & yummy cudds & gims, you don't find personalities like that anyplace else. except for here at Mu hopefully! hi keegs!
Ribbons, let's make a MAP Forum CL Radio/TV and I can be the boss! I've got a huge stash of MAP records on vinyl all warmed up for conversion onto message board format!

Re: I was banned form VoA
I'm hyperbolic. I can understand from a pragmatic point of view that we're all outsiders, so banning anti-vaxxers and tankies isn't practical. Still, I did find the condescension on that site insufferable. I understand they want to discourage direct conflict, but personally I prefer open conflict to passive-aggression.BLueRibbon wrote: ↑Wed Nov 06, 2024 12:33 pm I've found VoA quite intelligent and very welcoming. Even if it wasn't a joke, it would be fine. I can accept I don't exactly endear myself to people, to put it mildly.
