Let's not discount affirmative support

I've written before about how those telling us to 'get help' can get fucked. Such comments tend to be directed at anyone not ashamed of their feelings, regardless of whether there is any intention of acting on them.

I stand by what I said, but I do feel there is a need to emphasize the difference between affirmative support, particularly between peers, and the awful kind of 'help' that our detractors demand.

I've never attended therapy before, but based on everything I've heard I seriously doubt that the average therapist would be very well prepared or even willing to take on MAPs as clients. Try booking a session with some random talk therapist and telling them you're a pedophile and see how they react. Again, I'm just assuming here, but I imagine the reactions of most would range from flat out rejecting you as a client right off the bat, referring you to forensic "experts" trained in teaching registered sex offenders moralistic self-shaming techniques, or just being super uncomfortable and squeamish the whole time and counting down the seconds until you get out of their office.

The only pedophiles allowed to exist are those who constantly self-flagellate and go through the whole VirPed non-offending pity performance where any mention of your attraction to kids has to be prefaced with a speech about how you are a sick person with an unbearably awful burden to carry and you know all of your desires are evil and mustn't ever be accepted.

I'm good on all that.
