Charges against Amos Yee (August 2026)

I'll be honest, I haven't heard about Amos Yee until recently.

From what I understand, it seems people had lots of sympathy for him as a Singapore dissident until he started promoting adult-"minor" (social construct) sexual relationships and having been in one.

Child sex offender, Amos Yee Pang Sang, will face charges in court on Tuesday (Aug 26) for publishing content that allegedly threatened religious harmony and contained indecent communications.

Notice how the article immediately starts with "child sex offender" to frame him as the evil person right from the beginning.

Additionally, Yee made another blog post on June 30, allegedly stating that "children were capable of consenting to sexual acts" and advocated for the abolition of laws governing the age at which children can consent to such acts.

That's his opinion. He can have any opinion he wants.

The blog post in question was deleted. His actual words were:

I would simply just abolish age of consent laws altogether. That doesn’t mean I endorse sex with children of all ages. Molest and rape laws will obviously still exist, and will automatically account for all acts with children below age 3. Abolishing age of consent laws completely will just ensure that the sexual acts that are consensual at any age, will not be penalised.

So yes, baby sex is bad. Pedophiles, stop trying to defend sex with babies because that’s indefensible and opponents can easily discredit and embarrass you if you hold that position. Defending all other sexual acts with children however, especially children at the age of 10 to 16 where there are definite peer-reviewed scientific studies showing most of the acts have been consensual, and that adults being sexual with children have had less risk of harm than typical sexual relationships between 2 adults.

With "consensual at any age", he seems to mean actual willingness, not legal consent.

The police said this was in addition to three other videos uploaded by him in 2021, in which he made statements advocating sexual relationships involving children and the abolition of laws prohibiting child sexual abuse material.

Since his YouTube channel was terminated earlier this year, these videos are probably lost, so I can't review what he said exactly. But I am guessing that the definition of "child" once again includes physically mature 17-year-olds.

Following investigations, 27-year-old Yee will be charged with offences for knowingly attempting to promote feelings of disharmony between different racial groups and for making indecent communications likely to cause alarm under the Protection from Harassment Act 2014.

I once had a Reddit account suspended with the reason "harassment" because I publicly criticized a moderator for deleting my post and then reposting the same post from his account, probably because he wanted the "karma" (Reddit's Internet points). I first tried to message him privately, but he ignored my private message.

My Reddit experience shows me that justified criticism can easily be construed as "harassment".

For the remaining offensive content, the police have issued Stop Communication Directions to Yee to remove the existing posts on his personal blog.

This right here is why free speech matters.

Without guaranteed freedom of speech, the elites, the few people at the top, will eventually restrict what everyone else can say. If it hurts their fragile feelings, they will label it "harassment", "indecency", "disharmony", "violation of dignity", etc. and who says it will be thrown into a cage.

It has been like this in the middle ages, and it still is in many parts of the world.

Clearly Singapore is one of those parts. Unfortunate for him. Even knowing that, I wonder why the sudden interest in him again. As I understand it, he was relatively free and had been posting more videos on scattered topics for a while now. He must've said something that pissed someone off yet wasn't directly illegal if they're fishing for infractions like that.

Still baffles me to see a government try so hard to bury a single dissident. Something like that could backfire on them if played right.
