Why is someone who is attracted to children but doesnt act on it seen as worse than a serial killer or a rapist?

Finger in the air, I'd say 1% of people genuinely hate maps, and they usually have other deeper mental issues going on. But I do think people who hate pedophiles do so because they can't relate to pedophiles at all and the idea of a non-offending pedophile or anyone connecting with kids respectifully is just something they can't understand or relate to at all. Murders and rapists are easy to connect to, they're based on emotions everyone has.

Seems like its more than that, i remember reading a survey about pedophiles and one of the questions asked if non offending pedophiles are better off being dead and around half of the participants said yes.

Also in that survey most people said they would not tolerate a non offending pedophile in their neighborhood or as a friend.

I haven't seen that survey, I'd be interested in the whole survey, the questions and where it was run.

Firstly, a survey is rarely a representation of general society because most people don't respond to surveys. Most people cross the road when they see a person with a clipboard and most people don't bother with online surveys. They're usually kids pretending to be adults to earn some money or low income unemployed people with enough free time to fill in surveys, or they're surveys pitched at specific groups.

Secondly, wording is so important, as is context within the survey. So many surveys direct people towards a line of thinking, intentionally.

Thirdly, I've engaged with non-maps in non-map forums before and it has always been a small minority who attacked. Most people don't care or are pretty neutral in my experience but there is always a small number of very loud, very aggressive people who have to swamp a discussion with their views. I've genuinely in the past had non-maps defend me in discussions and I'm aware of a blog run by a map who's openly map on his blog, and I was speaking to him and he only gets positive and encouraging messages. Now it isn't a blog about anything map related, but in his posts he is openly map and people don't care, they're there for the articles and it's irrelevant that they're written by a map. And with my forum experiences, when I've tangled with anti's and had non maps turn on the anti's, I don't believe it's because these people have pro-map views, I think it's just because people don't like gobby anti's spewing hate. Anti's are rarely welcome anywhere, people just don't like hateful ranting.

Now it might be that I've just happened to had a more positive experience online, but I can't help thinking that it's more likely that there are just groups and loners, a minority that creates a warped impression. I might be wrong, I can conceed that.
