The passion for social justice here is admirable, but it was ultimately stupid of Jim/Nicky not fire to himself (resign graciously for the good of others before they could fire him) and use this freedom and clear conscience to defend his identity in the process.
Instead, Jim regurgitated what his lawyer (who has no experience of these situations) thought to be a "safe" course of action - the potted denial. All while waiting for the inevitable results of the "investigation" to come out, and online sleuths to prove he was lying under orders.
Running away from these kind of situations (deleting podcasts, forum threads, hoping others won't trace his online activities despite this being known for almost a week, etc) is just as mad as the initial hope it could all be swept under the rug as a misunderstanding, or mistake of some sort.
The silver lining here, is he can retire, and nobody really gives a damn what he does as long as he stays out of the limelight and doesn't touch any kids. He is free to emigrate - sooner rather than later if I were him. We can expect further MSM stories to embarrass parts of the entertainment industry when they have legal clearance to join certain dots. We can expect the fringe blogs and anti creeps to respond if he returns to BL activism, but this probably won't matter to the media, who have tarred, feathered and washed their hands of him, as they see it.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda. If he knew that Karen was going to stalk him, find out his identity and employer, and sell her mobile pics to the tabloid media, then of course it would have been better to out himself, make a grand resignation, and go to the press about how important MAP support sites are.Jim Burton wrote: Wed Sep 09, 2026 8:00 pm The passion for social justice here is admirable, but it was ultimately stupid of Jim/Nicky not fire to himself (resign graciously for the good of others before they could fire him) and use this freedom and clear conscience to defend his identity in the process.
But as it were, he had committed no crimes, and was neither charged nor detained. He probably thought there was a good chance that that was the end of it. Maybe he still needed employment.
I won't blame Nicky, since so many others (including MAPs) are already doing that. But I will blame the Kathy who had such utter lack of decorum that she zoomed in on someone else's laptop, then tried to 'expose' members of a mental health support site that often has suicidal visitors, without any care of the hurt she would cause by turning their pain into a social media 'freak show' for people to gawk at. The violation of privacy SHE committed was not simply 'careless', it was deliberate and malicious. Should she hold no accountability for her malice? Her name should be known, alongside the identity of the man whose career she willfully destroyed.
Nicky was not at some shady pr0n site, or even a BL chat. He was volunteering his time to moderate a support chat whose mission is to help people who are struggling. You can't get more altruistic than that. Sure, I wouldn't advise people to do that in public. Go on, call him 'careless', but I don't blame any MAP who is sick of being expected to always hide inside, cooped up like some scared rabbit. Yeah, I know... Western society sucks, and it's only getting worse: Constant surveillance the minute you step out of your home, and miserable people with hate in their hearts, waiting to ruin your life if you dare to entertain a mildly controversial idea in a private conversation.
Yeah, it would be great if some celebrity who could afford to be out of work would put it all on the line in support of MAP issues. Maybe that day will come. As it stands, Nicky is a great hero to me. Not least because he finally got the media to stop pretending that LifeLine doesn't exist.

The load from antis and those just curious aside, publishing the site name might help some lonely MAPs find the chat and seek support (just my two cence)

I feel bad for the guy, but is anyone else kind of excited and cautiously optimistic about more mainstream media attention being put on sites like this? Maybe it sucks for people who really want these communities to stay as under the radar support groups, but personally, I'm more into the activism and trying to change society side of things, and an activist movement can't accomplish anything if nobody even knows that it exists in the first place.
According to most Redditors, "MAP activism" is just a made up 4chan psyop meant to demonize the LGBT community by association. They literally do not even think we are real.
Attention from stuff like this also matters for recruiting new members and letting closeted MAPs out there know they're not alone and there are others like them they can reach out to.

Yes, this is advancing super fast in a way that's really cool to see. I can't wait to see where it'll take us.Kierkegaard wrote: Thu Sep 10, 2026 10:46 pm I feel bad for the guy, but is anyone else kind of excited and cautiously optimistic about more mainstream media attention being put on sites like this?
