Polish cybercrime investigators have detained 75 people in a major nationwide crackdown on pedophilia and child pornography.

The operation, involving over 400 officers, was conducted by Poland’s Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime (CBZC) and was coordinated with local law enforcement.

Marcin Zagórski, spokesman for the CBZC, told Polish state news agency PAP that this was one of the bureau’s most extensive operations, aiming to protect the most vulnerable members of society.

Over two weeks, the bureau detained 75 people, ranging in age from 16 to 78.

The suspects, 65 men and 10 women, face charges including possession, distribution and production of child pornography. Courts have ordered 31 of them to be kept in temporary detention.

Authorities also seized over 7,500 electronic devices, including mobile phones and laptops.

“These devices contained over one million files with explicit images of minors,” said Zagórski.

“Some photos were downloaded from publicly accessible social media accounts where parents and families had shared them.

“It is essential to recognize that such images can be misused by individuals with malicious intent,” warned Zagórski.

This is the fifth operation of its kind conducted by the CBZC, with nearly 300 arrests made to date related to pedophilia.

In Poland, the maximum penalty for creating or distributing child pornography is 15 years in prison.

For context, the maximum basic penalty for non-aggravated murder in Poland is 15 years.
