The Pope's grip against paedophilia: the crime against the person is born

Stop abusing by pretending to act in the name of God. The Church continues its fight against paedophilia and abuse of the weak with the introduction of a new crime, that of "spiritual abuse", today generically defined as "false mysticism" that in some cases has competed as an aggravating factor in cases of abuse. From today what was a crime against the faith becomes a crime against the person. The "spiritual abuse" will be able to punish more harshly those who take advantage of false mystical visions to commit violence. To decide it together with the Pope was the head of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernandez, with the ok of the head of the Dicastery for Legislative Texts Filippo Iannone, competent in the matter.

The establishment of a working group between the two Dicasteries has already begun to "present concrete proposals" on how to clarify - once and for all - issues related to spirituality, alleged supernatural phenomena and spiritual abuses. To better outline the type of crime, it will still take a reasonable bit of time. «The so-called false mysticism appears in the regulations of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith connected to spirituality and the supposed supernatural phenomena, today belonging to the Doctrinal Section».

The problem arises with the abuses associated "with the discipline of faith, pseudo-mysticism, asserted apparitions, visions and messages attributed to a supernatural origin". In the document of the dicastery "False mysticism and spiritual abuse" it is explained how until now this typification of "false mysticism" was not provided for in the Law of the Church although it was still treated as a circumstance "of particular moral gravity" if it was recognised as "a means or pretext to exercise a dominion over people or commit abuses", says the high prelate. However, the lack of definition of a crime allowed at most to "evaluate the situation". Not anymore. Santoni, self-called visionaries, paedophile priests who hide behind the pith are warned.
