MAP Detained for.... Incognito Mode and WordPress Use

Post by BLueRibbon »

An MAP in Australia is currently detained for breaching the terms of his parole by using incognito mode and WordPress. The latter is defined as an 'encrypted' app.
A convicted pedophile and cult leader has admitted to breaching the strict conditions of his release from jail by using “private mode” on his phone.

Kamm, 74, served nearly a decade in jail for the sexual assault of two teenage girls between 1993 and 1995 at his cult’s compound near Nowra in southern NSW.

The convicted pedophile was released on parole in 2014, but the state successfully applied for monitoring conditions to be imposed on him because of the risk of reoffending.

He was rearrested in May last year, with police alleging he used a WordPress blog and used incognito mode on his phone, in contravention of his reporting conditions.
Story here (trigger warning for the p*** slur).

The vast majority of "reoffending" by people on sex offender registries has nothing to do with sex and everything to do with compliance to stupid little details in the reporting conditions.

It is not about justice. It is not about community safety. It is about control, pure and simple.

It is when it's used like that by people that aren't part of our community. We can try to reclaim it as our own word, but just like the f***** word used for gay people, it is not meant with compassion or love when people use it about us (or about people who may or may not even be part of the MAP community).

Agreed, I came to that conclusion recently (though in the past I preferred p***phile). The least a teleiophile can do to show decency towards us is to use MAP instead of that word. Maybe it should be like the n-word, not taboo among the people who it's a slur against, but seen as offensive and rude when others use it.

I've never really had a problem with the word 'pedo' or 'pedophile'. When we were working on new terms back in '06-07, eventually ending up with minor-attracted person or MAP after B4U-Act chose to adopt it, the purpose was to create a term that could be used for activist purposes. I don't think anyone expected the replacement term to be used within the community, but here we are.

If media organizations stopped referring to "convicted pedos" or "pedo who murdered two girls found guilty" I'd feel much less triggered by it. But the word being used so synonymously with "child rapist" means that's got an extremely negative coding. When used towards MAPs much of that negative coding carries over.

Obviously the word itself has no negative meaning. "Pedophile" just means "child-lover". But words aren't just what they literally mean. "Pedo" is just taken literally means "child", but no-one uses it that way.

But whether or not you find it personally offensive, I'm a fan of MAPs using "righteous indignation" as a strategy. We should take the moral high ground and point out that antis and normies are being morally deficient. Showing we're offended by others' careless use of words and implications? That's just another tool in our activist toolbox.

Many of the formerly incarcerated "reoffend" by simply forgetting to charge their anklet bracelets or not notifying local authorities in time if they travel to a new area.

Murderers or other criminals aren't placed on registries where they're constantly monitored. People accused of SA, even if the actual situation was minor or consensual, are treated far worse than every other criminal.
