Stop Hate UK- would they be interested in understanding MAP issues

A place to talk about Minor-Attracted People, and MAP/AAM-related issues. The attraction itself, associated paraphilia/identities and AMSC/AMSR (Adult-Minor Sexual Contact and Relations).

Stop Hate UK- would they be interested in understanding MAP issues

Post by Grunko »

I don’t know if anyone has heard of STOP HATE Helpline, but do you think as an organisation that tackles hate, prejudice and discrimination towards any aspect of an individual’s identity (particularly ones people have no control over or are born with) would be open minded about MAP communities would ever be able to receive any support from them or would they listen to issues faced by the MAP community. Have MU ever thought of starting a dialogue with them?

I don’t know which section would be the most relevant so I put it in General MAP discussion.

I would be very interested in how they would approach that subject.

Note: I am not a lawyer.

The Equality Act of 2010 (UK) makes it illegal to discriminate against someone for various reasons, including sexual orientation. This however only covers "heterosexual, gay, lesbian or bisexual" as protected orientations. It does not recognize adult attraction to minors as a form of sexual orientation, so my best guess is they'd likely turn away MAPs as they aren't being "discriminated" against, as it wouldn't classify as a "hate-crime".

Still curious though, so it's a good question.

You could perhaps challenge the denial hebephilia/pedophilia is an orientation with an appeal to consequences. If attraction to minors is just a coincidence or bad moral choice, it can be rationalised as horny men making mistakes. Under the orientation model, people are more conceptually capable of separating the attraction from potentially criminal behaviour. For instance, we accept that gay men don't randomly attack and interfere with other adult men.

It sounds like they should be supportive since it's all forms of hate crime and discrimination based on someone's identity. I identify as a map so if I experienced a hate crime or discrimination for that then they should support me.

The trouble is I can't think of any disctimination or hate crime I'm suffering to test that out but it's good to know about them. If I do feel I'm experiencing either as a map then I will definitely test the water with them. Has anyone else tried or plans to?
