So there's a pretty awful new bill that's being passed into law in the UK. It will increase the burdens on registrants substantially. It creates new crimes around AI. It increases the stringency of border scans. It increases the burden of site administrators, especially for MAP related sites.
We have some advice on how you might be able to live a little more easily as the world gradually approaches 1984.

Re: Mu Press Release: What MAPs should know about the Crime and Policing Bill
Crazy times.
I know many companies such as defence companies have always been concerned about employees carrying laptops across borders containing sensitive information and so a policy they often have is that any information they may need on the other side shoudl be encrypted and stored in remotely accessible drive, server or cloud data storage. That way there's nothing on the machine crossing the border and it's just picked up on the other side.
These border checks aren't really a new thing except they're now an official thing in the UK targeting people of certain sexual orientations. But in industry its been an issue for years, probably decades, hence the policy of keeping devices clear and using burner phones.

As an aside, following links in that article, I just learned that "paedophile manuals" are unlawful in the UK, covering essentially all writings that describe actual adult-child sexual interaction, even in a matter-of-fact and non-erotic way, like the various "child-lover's creed" documents I've read in recent months as I've started to research pro-c/pro-legalization views. The goal is clear: to prevent any challenge to the Hegemonic Sex Fascist Narrative, at the level of people's thoughts. Literal mind control. What an authoritarian nightmare that country is.

It's hard to overstate how ridiculously broad this is. "Information in an electronic form" used for "facilitating the creation of" CSA images? That can mean just about anything."CSA image-generator” means anything (including any service, any program, and any information in electronic form) which is made or adapted for use for creating, or facilitating the creation of, CSA images.

The Paedophile Manual law is intended to tackle documents that instruct readers on how to violate laws. They do not cover anything you have read directly via Ipce or Newgon, for example, as these are non-erotic descriptions of AMSR after the event occurred, and would have to be pursued under obscenity laws, which would be a stretch as Lolita is currently permitted on artistic grounds.

It is, to an extent, a matter of laziness and efficiency. Instead of having customs officers check devices properly, they will run these quick scans like a massive fishing expedition. Thankfully, the technology is easily defeated using the guide in the article. EVERY MAP should follow that guide, even if the images they view consist of nothing but children in heavy winter coats. It is not that hard, and we will provide support on our new tech support subforum.Outis wrote: Tue Mar 25, 2025 10:19 am Crazy times.

I utterly despise the UK and have nothing but negative things to say about that horrific dystopia. However, the definition is not that broad.WavesInEternity wrote: Tue Mar 25, 2025 10:38 amAs an aside, following links in that article, I just learned that "paedophile manuals" are unlawful in the UK, covering essentially all writings that describe actual adult-child sexual interaction, even in a matter-of-fact and non-erotic way, like the various "child-lover's creed" documents I've read in recent months as I've started to research pro-c/pro-legalization views. It is an offence to be in possession of any item that contains advice or guidance about abusing children sexually.
(8) In this section—
“abusing children sexually” means doing anything that constitutes—
(a) an offence under Part 1 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003, or under Part 2, 3 or 4 of the Sexual Offences (Northern Ireland) Order 2008, against a person under 16,
(b) an offence under section 1 of the Protection of Children Act 1978, or under Article 3 of the Protection of Children (Northern Ireland) Order 1978, involving indecent photographs (but not pseudo-photographs),
(c) [an offence under section 2 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 (human trafficking) committed with a view to exploitation that consists of or includes behaviour within section 3(3) of that Act (sexual exploitation),]
or doing anything outside England and Wales or Northern Ireland that would constitute such an offence if done in England and Wales or Northern Ireland;

It's only a matter of time until even academic research and discourse will be banned, particularly since academia tends to have a less harsh view towards minor attraction.

Fat chance.
A friend of mine once drafted a sci-fi graphic novel that was said to be a gay equivalent equivalent to Lolita in terms of the characters and ages it depicted.
He sent it to one or two UK reviewers, potentially violating the Obscene Publications Act in the process.
I pointed out that even if it were deemed to be potentially "obscene", the novel would never be prosecuted in the UK because of the Lolita comparison and the crown's fear of being seen as homophobic/stirring up bigotry. Plus they'd have to argue that it was dull and bland, hence failing the "artistic" exemption Lolita benefits from. It would be a prosecution on the basis of subjective taste against a gay novel.

Re: Mu Press Release: What MAPs should know about the Crime and Policing Bill
I wasn't referring to material directly on IPCE or Newgon. What I had in mind was rather documents that give broad instructions—often quite morally adequate ones as far as I'm concerned—on how a MAP (or "child-lover", "girl-lover", "pedophile", etc.) should behave with a minor with whom he/she has an intimate relationship. For the reader to apply such guidance, breaking the law would be likely. Although one could claim that no sexual contact is implied, and there are typically no explicit references to it, that seems to me like a strained argument.Jim Burton wrote: Tue Mar 25, 2025 10:57 am The Paedophile Manual law is intended to tackle documents that instruct readers on how to violate laws. We just need to keep building momentum. Keep resisting and eventually we'll be able to start pushing back.
First we need visibility and a voice, though. Mu is still being told "nonces please don't bother to email us again," by the Sun in the UK.
Other left-wing groups say "what you're saying is interesting, but some of it is problematic so we aren't able to platform you".
Visibility and a voice. Then eventually with that the power to be part of the narrative about ourselves.

Re: Mu Press Release: What MAPs should know about the Crime and Policing Bill
It's a good guide and agree that people should follow it. But the model of only having clean devices going through customs and retrieving files on the other side has its benefits since there is literally nothing on the device to arouse suspicion or draw attention, nothing to forcibly decrypt or analyse. I mean these searches are targeted at maps and so anything will be looked at with suspicion. But the other approaches covered in the guide should work well also.
