I do LOVE this thought experiment but I do have to state that a small island doesn’t have too much global impact. 
Additionally, an island nation is very sensitive to international sanctions. Have a look at what’s happening in Russia due to them being sanctioned for committing the invasion of Ukraine. Now remove the war aspect itself, but even then it can be very harmful to any country on Earth. Such changes might actually need to happen in a larger, more influential country or intergovernmental union (EU) to have any lasting global effect.
