This hasn't been true since the 1800s. States generally have their own age of consents, but the PROTECT Act establishes that in absence of a state mandate, it is 18; it also establishes that the age of consent increases to 18 in the case of interstate activities and online communication regardless of which states the two participants come from.Anonymous_Lover wrote: Tue Oct 21, 2025 4:23 pm The age of consent in the US is actually federally 12.
This isn't entirely accurate either. While 31 states have an age of consent of 16, most of these states still place restrictions on sexual activity with people below 18. The most extreme example is in Washington state, where the age of consent is technically 16, but you can't actually have sex with anyone you want until 21. In other states, like Alabama, the age of consent is technically 16, but it's 18 if there is a large enough age gap. If you're 30 and try to have sex with a 17 year old in either of these states (and most of the 31 others where it's 16), you'll be able to be prosecuted for violating close-in age exemptions.Anonymous_Lover wrote: Tue Oct 21, 2025 4:23 pm Most states have an aoc of 16 or 17 -- 18 is actually the exception

In truth, the true exception is a state where 16 is the actual age of consent wherein the 16 year old can actually consent to whomever they want.
I've looked at this particular law code and what you describe is not present.n other states, like Alabama, the age of consent is technically 16, but it's 18 if there is a large enough age gap.
This is a myth. No, sexual interactions with minors under the age of 18 but over 16 is not completely free and there are many loopholes that make it easy to prosecute someone from "corruption of a minor" to CP possession with lewds and various state laws that prevent adults that minors are likely to interact with such as teachers and school employees from having sex but this idea that 16-17 only applies to some Romeo and Juliet clause marks someone as a certified graduate of tumblr university law school. Many states where the aoc is 18 actually have Romeo and Juliet for minors and adults close in age, such as a 16 year old and a 19 year old who may have started dating in school. This idea has been shopped around by antis for a long time to prevent honest discussions of the laws that actually exist and keep the idea of 18 being a universal aoc from being discredited due to its actual variation even within the same country. The existence of Romeo and Juliet laws actually make setting an aoc at a low level redundant. Many state laws accept lower than the official aoc if the sex is among two minors themselves though many have a hard cut off like 11 or 12.If you're 30 and try to have sex with a 17 year old in either of these states (and most of the 31 others where it's 16), you'll be able to be prosecuted for violating close-in age exemptions.
The Nigerian Senate has approved a life imprisonment penalty for anyone convicted of defiling a minor — a dramatic escalation from the current five-year jail term under the nation’s criminal code.
The resolution followed consideration of the Criminal Code (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which seeks to impose stiffer punishments for sexual offences and related crimes.
Lawmakers described the defilement of minors as a “heinous act capable of destroying a child’s life forever”, insisting that the punishment must reflect the gravity of the offence.
“The Senate has decided that any defilement of a minor in Nigeria henceforth attracts life imprisonment — without an option of fine,” Senate President Godswill Akpabio declared after a unanimous voice vote. “Let everyone be aware.”

Sure, like the sacredness of hoholistan’s 1991 borders to protect gay marriage in the Donbass (but curiously enough, not Serbia’s 1997 borders), covidmania, or the necessity of America to fund Israel’s universal healthcare system whilst Americans drown in medical debt. We know that, no need to re-iterate it.I do care about what happens in the rest of the world. I care about more things than just being a MAP.
Because you don’t care about MAP rights that much as much as upholding the sanctity of the liberal establishment. We know that.I'm pretty happy living in Europe actually.
That is obvious, although it seems that you still don’t get it.I sincerely believe in liberalism
Namely, that you haven’t rebutted Anonymous’ point questioning MAPs’ quasi-religious attachment to liberalism despite the fact that MAP rights have not only stalled, but reversed ever since the 1980s. Fact is, begging for Soros and Von der Leyen for crumbs as part of the liberal idpol strategy isn’t going to work, because face it, the PMC would rather ally with someone like Marine LePen instead of lowering the AoC to 12 with a shitload of statutes. What deflection?
Well, since they’re winning against the PMC that you idolise so much, then MAPs perhaps should make dealings with the winning horse rather than relying on an old and tired one. After all, does a cat’s coat color matter so long as it catches the mice effectively?do you actually think they're good for MAPS?
Every European knows that “Muslim” in Europe is codeword for black/brown people. No need to pretend otherwise.Muslim means black? What?
Two points: 1. I did not argue that there are no muslim countries that are sliding backwards when it comes to tolerance of MAPs, only that only muslim countries seem to be making progress reversing or preventing rises towards higher AOCs 2. Nigeria isn't actually a predominately muslim country, its split roughly equally between muslims and christians with some spattering of indigenous pagan beliefs/folk religions in between. I don't intend to be a stickler on that point, since reliable statistics in African country are fairly difficult to come by. There are even "population truthers" out there who think that African countries are inflating their population counts either due to poor records or to get aid/business investment from developed countries. And that's not a particularly crazy view even though its fringe but as near as I can tell Nigeria is roughly half-Christian and half-Muslim. The Islamist radicals and separatists in the north are probably more likely to do away with this than the Christian South, which appears to be where the centers of power in Nigeria, actually are. Tbh considering the state of African state capacity they might as well pass a law ensuring unlimited steak, lobster, alcohol, candy and unicorns for any citizen that wishes to partake alongside this. Which ofc will be cold comfort to any MAPs who draw the reverse lottery ticket of whipping boy chosen to be made an example of. But lifestyle illegalists on the dark web are already gravitating towards Africa because its pretty much a wild west out there.Jim Burton wrote: Wed Oct 22, 2025 12:49 am Here is one example, from yesterday, of a mainly Muslim country ramping up sentencing for child "defilement" - Nigeria:
