Well most TERFs don’t claim leftist because the modern left is very pro transgender. So that may have been the case in the past but definitely not today.

Gender critical feminism comes from the left wing therefore it is leftist. TERFs working alongside the alt-right is because as you say the "modern left" supports trans rights. GC feminists arguments are from a female rights perspective therefore again it is feminist. Pro life feminists are still feminists. Messianic Jews are still Jews. If you look at the Brexit case, a high number of the same people who voted for Europe in 1975, voted against in 2016. Not because their views have changed but because the views of "society" have changed.
