The smoke and mirrors behind AI hysteria in the UK

The world is already in a state of awe, and alarm, over the extraordinary power and potentially terrifying consequences of AI. There are good reasons to be concerned, not least because the power to control social narratives will be concentrated in the hands of those few who own the bots. It is not surprising that politicians, who have made a career out of wielding power or attempting to do so, should seek to act against the new competition in order to maintain their own grip over the populace. In most cases, governments can expect some resistance to their attempts at censoring AI, whether or not the censorship is justifiable. There is one 'issue', however, that nobody is allowed to speak up against: 'pedophilia'. And so governments like the UK, with a long history of government overreach, spying, and censorship, are using the fear of AI 'child pornography' to drive the thin end of the authoritarian wedge under the door.

Very well written. Gets the point across quite nicely.
It has always puzzled me why they latch so strongly onto AI. It's not like any of this is impossible with other tools.
But undoubtedly, it's just those with influence making use of the fear of new technology.

And the push continues...
I'm sure there are people in IWF & co. that are convinced to do good. It makes me so sad when I hear of persons that are dedicating their lives to a cause, certain to do good, while what they are actually doing is the opposite.

Yes, this is a great example of The Push, but with ulterior motives.
Protecting children is not the aim; it is survival for the IWF, and protecting a great excuse for spying in the case of the government. The two have teamed up, and they don't care how many MAPs and children they hurt in the process.

Regarding the motives of the organization, I can agree with you.
What I meant is that not so rarely the real motives of an organization are unseen from the people who work for it. This depends on the hierarchy depth of the organization, so i don't know if it applies to IWF. I can imagine people working for IWF (or other similar organizations) who, in good faith, want to help other people. Some would call them stupid, but I feel sorry.

Yes, I can accept this.
There are also some people in the IWF who seem to understand how the technology works. Politicians and journalists, less so.
