In a debate an out sensitive issues there will be strongly held opinions on both sides.

That doesn’t justify using language like “scum” to refer to other members of the forum.

It also doesn't justify calling into question someone's mental health.

I was insulted first, but that person doesn't have anything happen to them. This is clearly biased.

I was following up on a report by another member, specifically.

I try to let discussions go, even if they get heated, but I can't find a legitimate reason to use the word "scum" to refer to another member.

If you felt particularly upset by a comment made, feel free to report it. I should have locked this post so you could discuss it privately. Apologies.

If you want to discuss things further, please report this post.

I've unfortunately also had to issue warnings against PorcelainLark and Reaver.

I expressed stated as a warning:
I really don't want to have to lock this topic, so please both of you (and anyone else looking at participating) remember that disagreeing with the message doesn't mean attacking the messenger.
Unfortunately the personalized attacks continued.

If you can't discuss sensitive topics with sensitivity then don't discuss them. Simple.

I've also locked the topic.

I've seen enough of that thread to determine that Rolo should also be formally warned for consistency (the nature of the attack, then blatantly complaining in-thread).

Periods of effect are Rolo (29 days), Reaver (30 days) and PorcelainLark (30 days) due to the timing of the violations. Only upon detection of further violations will the moderation team discuss and then suspend these accounts (3 to 30 days except in exceptional circumstances).

PorcelainLark and others are reminded about previous feuding on MAP Forum, and that personal comments must be kept to a minimum, as they can be escalatory, even if not technical violations.

These rules were brought in to prevent the self-referential culture of personalised scuffles and toxic behaviour that have afflicted parts of our community. Once this kind of politics has been allowed to set seed, it can be incredibly hard to root out, thus warnings can be issued quickfire by individual moderators, allowing the conversation to continue and further, more definitive actions to be taken upon the first repetition.
