These same people still equate the word pedophile to someone who has harmed/abused a child. The fact we exist is reason for them to go after us, even if we've done nothing wrong. I hope one day they realize the effort is to reduce the terrible social stigma of having these attractions, not normalize abuse.
We're still people who have lives and want to live them as normally as possible without fearing for our life even if we've broken no laws or done anything wrong.
Not ticking time-bombs who wait for the right moment, I and many others still have a moral compass and seek to stick to it at all times.

"Minor Attracted People" should be a slur.
We need to call them what they are: p*dophiles.
The TED talk video is also being recycled.

To be honest I kind of agree that we shouldn't be afraid to use the term pedophile.
People are afraid of the term pedophile and talk about it as if it's a new phenomena. I've had the debate with parents who say it was fine for them to go out alone as kids back in the 70s and 80s because there weren't all these pedophiles back then but today they're tracking kids online and abducting kids.
That's absurd and easy to disprove but I think people do genuinely believe that there's some tsunami of pedophiles out abducting and raping kids.
Then the term map comes along as a new term, and then there are people saying map is a code word for pedophile, and it starts to look rather shady and supports this belief that there's something new happening.
But if the term pedophile can be defined in its original sense, a child lover, someone who loves children, emotionally and yes sexually, like people love others depending on their sexuality, then I think it can appear less shady.
Pedophiles have always been here, they are child lovers, they love children and its often a romantic love and romantic love can produce sexual attraction, but at its centre its love as it has been for thousands of years. Pull the rug from under the anti's by taking ownership of the term, pushing the historic and original meaning, that is ins't a new thing to fear.

Does she understand what a slur is? I think maybe the term MAP really has really worked, since by definition it includes people who haven't broken any laws.
Responding to an event from May 5th 2018 in March 2025. Reacting over half a decade after it happened (and incidentally it occurred during the first Trump presidency).

More culture war sensationalism, from the person that brought capital bathroom restrictions to prevent the single transgender woman from using the women's bathroom. For perspective, there are 435 seats in the US House of Representatives, only one of which is transgender.

When is America going to stop focusing on the culture war and perceptions, and start to focus on substantive problems and the tough questions that come with actual moral leadership?

My guess is terminology like "MAP" and the controversy surrounding it is probably necessary for "pedophile" to be properly distinguished.
I see Republicans making these comments (accuracy comments that liberals made) regularly in threads nowadays, almost begrudgingly.

I could see her type backing a sexual purity test for members of the federal government. I wonder what this new USA admin forebodes?

Nancy Mace, I won't comment on them much, but I believe they are misguided and misinformed like most.
Since the video uses the term pedophile, I will use such here.
What a day to be glad I don't have a Twitter account, I can't see any replies but I imagine they are very hateful.
I stand by the statement that if someone is unable to accept, or even acknowledge, when pedophiles are trying to seek help, they are indirectly part of the problem when it comes to child sexual abuse.
It is unfortunate that as a society the "optimal solution" to "pedophiles" is locking them all up and tossing the key. What is even worse is the majority celebrate and proudly endorse it.
If only more people would realize how important prevention is and opted to focus more money to it rather than the criminal system. Until the "ick" factor can go away, this will never change.

Apparently that Tick Segerblom vid just made something like 5M impressions despite the fact it is years old.
This is a regular theme. Something outdated gets shared by another right-wing influencer, with the same results. Shock, horror, pedophilia is being normalized!
