Do MAPs have the ability to relate to minors and treat them more like equals

I was wondering whether it is common for MAP’s to view children/teenagers as peers or equals. Like for example, I feel uncomfortable to be seen as the dominating person, so I probably would struggle to stand up to children or teenagers if they say something hurtful. Or MAP’s speak to minors or treat them like other individuals or may have the urge to show off or be the cool person or be fun. I don’t know if anyone else has felt like that.

It is a very common trait among MAPs.

Apparently, within sex offender treatment, it's called emotional congruence with children.

I strongly believe healthy and equal relationships/friendships between minors and adults is possible. I think society needs to accept that adults are human beings and can be innocent, don’t know everything and age does not define a persons maturity, experience, ability and emotional state or who they are as an Individual. Adults should not be stereotyped as dominant authority figures.

I believe so, but I have always avoided being around children due to fear of others misconstruing my intensions. I respect children more than most parents, honestly.

Damn! This hits HARD!

I recall a sexologist talking about this. He said that MAPs don't go into the falsetto/soprano when interacting with kids. In men their voices get deeper, and women may act more flirtatious. I've always been a bit nervous around minors (especially since I saw a bunch getting intimate at a skating rink I went to a few years back) and now that I'm aware of this, I'm very nervous around them to the point that I'm noticeably tense and withdrawn.

Despite this, I also hate and often blame the parents, not the children for unruly behavior and coarse language. Parents so often project their faults on to their won kids instead of admitting they swear and lash out because THEY do, but then punish the child for THEIR nasty behavior! This to me is just another example of child hatred in our society.

Interesting. I relate to not going falsetto mode with children, and I blamed poor social skills or lack of experience interacting with kids for this. In hindsight, pedophilia might have more to do with it.

Why are you more nervous now? Most people are not going around checking if people fit MAP stereotypes. (I get nervous too, but I don't know why this knowledge should make one more nervous.)

I get more nervous because I'm more tempted to interact and thus potentially build a relationship, which leads to crushy feelings that make me feel awkward and in need of...well, getting rid of that tension...

Plus living with an emotionally abusive parent that knows practically everything about me and uses it against me at any opportunity makes me really paranoid someone could find out. However, I have found that I'm gradually getting better at this. Today I was able to be in a room with them and and not get too infatuated.

I also only recently admitted and accepted this year so I haven't had much time to deal with it, which is why I came to this forum.
