Big Five personality test

Post by WavesInEternity »

The "Big Five" personality model is, by a fair margin, the most scientifically valid of its kind. Various personality tests based on it have repeatedly demonstrated that they have predictive power, unlike other competing paradigms.

I'm curious to see the results of other users of this forum, and to compare them with observations already made in existing research on MAPs.

Below are my own detailed results, using this free website:

Edit: I'll add everyone's results to this comparative chart as members share them in this thread.

Of course, those scores aren't set in stone. As a teenager, I scored "low" on Agreeableness, but I worked hard to improve myself in that respect.

Re: Big Five personality test

Post by Aspire6 »

This is my first time taking this test, but

Aspire6's Big Five:

1) Extraversion: 68 (low) (Extraversion is low, indicating you are introverted, reserved, and quiet. You enjoy solitude and solitary activities. Your socialization tends to be restricted to a few close friends.)

1.1 Friendliness: 8 (low)
1.2 Gregariousness: 4 (low)
1.3 Assertiveness: 16 (high)
1.4 Activity Level: 14 (high)
1.5 Excitement-Seeking: 12 (neutral)
1.6 Cheerfulness: 14 (high)

My response to this category: I am completely introverted, reserved, and quiet. I was always the "quiet kid" in school, I kept to myself. Was it fear of these attractions? I'd say it played a part. I have a hard time making new friends as I take extra time in keeping relationships trusting and meaningful. For whatever reason, I don't want to say I was a born leader, but I have always found it monumental to me to step up and take charge of something and people often are glad to join behind me in it.

2) Neuroticism: 93 (high) (Neuroticism is high, indicating that you are easily upset, even by what most people consider the normal demands of living. People consider you to be sensitive and emotional.)

2.1 Anxiety: 19 (high)
2.2 Anger: 10 (low)
2.3 Depression: 18 (high)
2.4 Self-Consciousness: 17 (high)
2.5 Immoderation: 15 (high)
2.6 Vulnerability: 14 (high)

My response to this category: I feel like this can be mostly attributed to my intense fear of being found-out. I fear every knock on the door, I fear every phone call, I fear waking up to a new day. I don't want to say I fear life, but I certainly fear tomorrow. This is a big part of what I am writing (and still very slowly am, so if you see this BLue, it's making slow progress!). I try not to let myself get angered easily, certainly helps to not check places that could incite such rage like social medias. While my "Depression" score is high, I want to note that I easily can go from enjoying myself to feeling insanely distraught by what I read or see online if it hits too close to home.

3) Openness To Experience: 97 (high) (Openness to Experience is high, indicating you enjoy novelty, variety, and change. You are curious, imaginative, and creative.)

3.1 Imagination: 19 (high)
3.2 Artistic Interests: 19 (high)
3.3 Emotionality: 14 (high)
3.4 Adventurousness: 9 (low)
3.5 Intellect: 20 (high)
3.6 Liberalism: 16 (high)

My response to this category: When I am working with something I am comfortable with, I am very good at it. I get very, very, good at it. It's how I ended up working where I do. I would like to think I am creative and imaginative, especially when I have to solve rather important problems. While I have a hard time finding the right emotions sometimes, I have no issues helping others with theirs; it's weird. I always love a good discussion, whether it be heated or not.

4) Agreeableness: 115 (high) (Your high level of Agreeableness indicates a strong interest in others' needs and well-being. You are pleasant, sympathetic, and cooperative.)

4.1 Trust: 16 (high)
4.2 Morality: 20 (high)
4.3 Altruism: 20 (high)
4.4 Cooperation: 19 (high)
4.5 Modesty: 20 (high)
4.6 Sympathy: 20 (high)

My response to this category: Like my relationships (friends/coworkers), I take a lot of time to work with others to make sure they're doing alright. People who get to know me frequently call me an old soul, I always try to be thoughtful and do my best to approach things rationally. They joke that I know too much about the world, but it's usually because learning something is often something I do when I am depressed and/or anxious (which can be often). If someone decides to take advantage of my kindness, they lose my opportunities and are quickly cut off. Trust should be mutual, but earned over time. I believe in second chances, people make bad decisions and don't think them through, often quickly regretting them when they realize what has occurred.

5) Conscientiousness: 96 (high) (Your score on Conscientiousness is high. This means you set clear goals and pursue them with determination. People regard you as reliable and hard-working.)

5.1 Self-Efficacy: 16 (high)
5.2 Orderliness: 16 (high)
5.3 Dutifulness: 19 (high)
5.4 Achievement-Striving: 18 (high)
5.5 Self-Discipline: 11 (low)
5.6 Cautiousness: 16 (high)

My response to this category: Despite my lower self-discipline score, I will agree that I can find starting difficult tasks hard because I struggle to find the right place to start. It's not that I'm a perfectionist, besides the fact it's a dumb excuse in my opinion, but I spend too much time thinking about the best possible start that I end up not starting at all. It's backwards, I know, but I strive for my own excellence constantly.

(I assume you manually formatted this? There doesn't seem to be a clear copy-paste option in this format...)

Fragment's Big Five:
1) Extraversion: 91 (high)

1.1 Friendliness: 17 (high)
1.2 Gregariousness: 16 (high)
1.3 Assertiveness: 16 (high)
1.4 Activity Level: 10 (low)
1.5 Excitement-Seeking: 19 (high)
1.6 Cheerfulness: 13 (high)
On MBTI I'm classified as an ENTP who are often seen as the most introverted of extroverts. My academic bent can often make people assume I'm introverted, but typically I have a compulsive need to share my ideas with others. Working as a teacher probably made me even more extroverted than I already was.
2) Neuroticism: 66 (low)

2.1 Anxiety: 7 (low)
2.2 Anger: 9 (low)
2.3 Depression: 14 (high)
2.4 Self-Consciousness: 9 (low)
2.5 Immoderation: 17 (high)
2.6 Vulnerability: 10 (low)
I'm a little surprised my anxiety is so low. I guess I typically don't worry about a wide range of things, rather get lazer focused in on a particular concern. The questions seemed to be more focused on the former.
3) Openness To Experience: 95 (high)

3.1 Imagination: 17 (high)
3.2 Artistic Interests: 10 (low)
3.3 Emotionality: 13 (high)
3.4 Adventurousness: 20 (high)
3.5 Intellect: 20 (high)
3.6 Liberalism: 15 (high)
No surprises here. I'm typically open-minded, but prefer ideas and logic to art and creativity.
4) Agreeableness: 78 (high)

4.1 Trust: 17 (high)
4.2 Morality: 17 (high)
4.3 Altruism: 12 (neutral)
4.4 Cooperation: 14 (high)
4.5 Modesty: 8 (low)
4.6 Sympathy: 10 (low)
I tend to assume people are well-intentioned, even to the point of naivety, but I'm not a natural empath. This was likely even lower before I worked as a teacher.
5) Conscientiousness: 57 (low)

5.1 Self-Efficacy: 16 (high)
5.2 Orderliness: 8 (low)
5.3 Dutifulness: 10 (low)
5.4 Achievement-Striving: 8 (low)
5.5 Self-Discipline: 9 (low)
5.6 Cautiousness: 8 (low)
I'm a mess. I don't care very much at all about other people's standards. My academic pride is what pushes me to achieve more than any other sense of achievement. I'm highly competent, but I get things done with the minimum work required. Unless I'm interested in a project- then I'll put in 150%. Clearly being reckless resulted in my arrest. I'll be more cautious going forward out of necessity, but that is going against my core personality.
If only some people can have it, that's not happiness. That's just nonsense. Happiness is something anyone can have.

1) Neuroticism: 92 (high)

Anxiety: 16 (high)
Anger: 17 (high)
Depression: 16 (high)
Self-Consciousness: 15 (high)
Immoderation: 15 (high)
Vulnerability: 13 (low)

As expected, although there are things outside of being a MAP that also contribute to this.

2) Extraversion: 57 (low)

Friendliness: 8 (low)
Gregariousness: 13 (high)
Assertiveness: 10 (low)
Activity Level: 7 (low)
Excitement-Seeking: 10 (low)
Cheerfulness: 9 (low)

3) Openness To Experience: 85 (high)

Imagination: 17 (high)
Artistic Interests: 16 (high)
Emotionality: 13 (high)
Adventurousness: 9 (low)
Intellect: 16 (high)
Liberalism: 14 (high)

4) Agreeableness: 68 (low)

Trust: 12 (neutral)
Morality: 13 (high)
Altruism: 10 (low)
Cooperation: 9 (low)
Modesty: 14 (high)
Sympathy: 10 (low)

I'm prone to conflict, though I think I'm mostly fair to others unless I feel they're being unfair to me.

5) Conscientiousness: 52 (low)

Self-Efficacy: 9 (low)
Orderliness: 7 (low)
Dutifulness: 14 (high)
Achievement-Striving: 5 (low)
Self-Discipline: 8 (low)
Cautiousness: 9 (low)

I'm pretty sure if I was tested, it would turn out I have ADHD. Although, I do make an effort to do the things I say I'm going to do.

High neuroticism, low agreeableness, and low conscientiousness. I think I read once these correlate with having a personality disorder.

(Yes, my post was manually formatted.)

I don't care about other people's standards either: mine are nearly always so much higher. :P See: very high assertiveness, low modesty.
Something interesting about my personality is that I have both high immoderation and high cautiousness, which reflects my "rational hedonism".
I was also surprised that my anxiety ended up very low.

Studies on MAPs show that the only personality trait that tends to distinguish us is higher-than-normal introversion. Indeed, you're the only one as of yet with high extraversion, Fragment, and it's not that high either. Whether that tendency of MAPs to be more introverted is due to the stigma we face, or otherwise innate for some unknown reason, is still an open question.

Neuroticism and conscientiousness are often called the two "clinically relevant" traits in the Big Five. High neuroticism and low conscientiousness are associated with adverse health outcomes, although the association is moderate-to-weak.

BLueRibbon: you should include your overall score in each of the Big Five categories, not just the sub-sections.

You've got one of the lowest Agreeableness scores I've ever seen.
Surprisingly high anxiety and anger, too. Is that mainly linked to being a MAP?

Sorry. I think it's irrecoverable now. I was more focused on the finer details, which do give an indication as to the overall score.

This would be a surprise to nobody who knows me well in person.

It was bad (subjectively) as a kid and is worse now.

And I'm actually in a pretty good place mentally at the moment!

The general picture is accurate: I am an extremely difficult person to deal with, but also very focused on doing things to a high standard, on my own terms.

It's a simple sum. I did the math mentally before I commented on your Agreeableness score.
BLueRibbon wrote: Tue Apr 08, 2025 1:02 pm This would be a surprise to nobody who knows me well in person.
Some of our interactions gave me a pretty good idea of it.
As stated in my initial post, I used to have low Agreeableness (in the lower 60s). I realized that it was highly detrimental to my personal growth and fulfillment, in among other respects romantically, so I made serious efforts to change, which were ultimately quite successful. Sometimes I feel like I might have become a little bit too trusting. I always had high Sympathy, tough.

I did think you were in a relatively happy place. Why did it get worse?
In my case, it has fluctuated wildly, with very high highs and very low lows. My worst period was the 6th and 7th years of my life roughly, but years 10 to 13 and the 10 months I spent homeless after my last breakup were nearly as bad. I'm still recovering from that last one now.

I've noticed that a lot of MAP activists are like that. I understand why, of course: given how unpopular of a cause it is, you pretty much have to be used to disregard what others think if you want to get seriously involved. However, it has some severe deleterious consequences for the movement because of the divisiveness it entails... everyone ends up doing "their own thing", forming closed echo chambers (sometimes single-person ones), often criticizing others while ignoring legitimate criticism of themselves by others.

Interesting results from others so far! Hope to see more replies as time goes on.

I will add to myself that another personality test I've taken, the 16personalities one, puts me in the Advocate type (INFJ-T) but I have additionally gotten Architect (INTJ-T) before on an occasional re-assessment.
