What are your guy's thoughts on the laws being pushed on the internet? Starting August 13th, YouTube, at least in the U.S. will have tighter age restrictions by requiring your ID, biometric data, or banking info to verify who you are no matter if you say you're 18 or whatever. An AI determines your age by the look of your face as well. I even heard rumors that it will put restrictions on your account based on the things you watch. For example, if you watch a lot of kid friendly things, it may assume you're a kid and put age restrictions on you. In due time, this will probably extend to other things as well such as simply surfing the web. Most people admit that it's not about protecting the kids, it is about control over citizens and what they can and cannot say. For me honestly, that is a possibility, but I am not completely sure. The one thing I hate about all of this for certain is how these "safety bills" restrict kids from they can see, hear, learn, etc. It's disgusting it makes me mad.

They are digital fascism, plain and simple. UK and Australia are all aboard the censorship train. Thank god the US hasn’t caved in to that yet. Australian Groups like Collective Shout have target payment processors to remove content deemed objectionable from Steam(video game distribution platform). I think we are often the justification for such laws, with anti-pedophilia “manufacturing consent” for anti-obscenity, anti-privacy and pro-censorship laws.

You guys remember when google tried to make everyone use their real ID to make a Google+ account and require that to use their services, including YouTube? And how everyone was so outraged that Google caved and dropped the whole thing?

Well, I got a feeling that may be coming back. And chances are they're going to get away with it this time.

There will be a backlash with increasingly radical aspects to it:

It is dystopian and the latest attack on the neutrality of the Internet.

The Internet is supposed to be a neutral resource that is available to all but there are increasing numbers of rules to censor the Internet and restrict access for whole groups of people, in this case young people. I've had young friends complain that they are getting blocked from Spotity because of explicit lyrics and other forums and services that are not porn related in any way are removing access for young people to play safe.

Dark times.

We may well end up with a situation where residential IPs are third tier, behind proxy servers. If you can afford a VPN or know how to get one for free, you will be allowed to bypass the censorship.

I'm moderately optimistic. I think this will make more people realize that the persecution of MAPs is an excuse to control the entire internet, but that doesn't automatically mean that they will be more understanding towards MAPs.

By the way, it seems like a coordinated and quite aggressive global effort. Maybe they'll even go after VPNs next. Some countries could make their use illegal.
