They don't, it's performative. The reason for the performance is because they know a 17 year old and an 18 year old can look indistinguishable. So, rather than admit there are 17 year olds they're attracted to, they say no one should be attracted to to teenagers. It's a distancing strategy.

#1 Young women who are annoyed and fed up with the immature and lustful nature of their male peers may mistakenly believe that because of an older man's percieved maturity, that they must be a more suitable partner for her because they are interested in a serious relationship and not just sex. The belief is that the young woman is being manipulated and exploited because she is unaware that older men are actually just as lustful and sex-motivated as younger men, but she is too charmed by his age and status to see that which means she is being taken advantage of. In other words: older women know that all men are predatory but young women only think that young men are predatory.
#2 Women used to be the property of men and their value was determined by what their bodies could provide them (sex, children, and care-taking). The expectation was that women were to be under the control of a man and be mainly a housewife and mother and servant. Women view this as exploitation and sexual slavery. Modern women want to undo the shackles of tradition and be free to determine their own purpose, value, and worth. A relationship between an older man and younger woman is seen as a threat to the freedom of women because older men are more likely to be in a healthy financial position where having children is a viable option. They therefore have the means to make young women into mothers which severely limits their autonomy and independence. Thus, women are put back into the same position they used to be.
Many women see this as a theft of one's youth and would prefer that young women experience life childless before coming to the decision to have children when they are older. This danger isn't present in the average same-aged relationship as young men are generally not in a financial position to have children.

Bonnie Blue(woman who supposedly has sex with 1,000 men in a day) was criticized when she was in her 20s for having sex with 18-19 year old men. Her response was that if you’re saying that, you WANT to raise the age of consent.

I've always assumed that a really influential pro-MAP movement would be associated with the left but in socially conservative cultures around the world older men with teenage wives has generally not be an issue throughout the vast majority of human history, it's been completely normal up until relatively recently with the spread of Western culture. I'm not up on the history but apparently this has something to do with the activism of proto-feminists in the 19th century (even in the West, it's become more and more taboo over time. It was taboo even in the '70s; although there was a time when it wasn't taboo at all, but when you look at old movies from the '70s or '80s, every once in a while you'll come across something that I have a hard time seeing fly today). With the left, I think the concern with exploitation is rooted in the grievance with power imbalances on principle (no one should be better off than anyone else) which might be related to the cultural Marxist mindset, but even that much I think is in the context of the 'meaning' of sex that I tend to associate with social conservatism (there doesn't seem to be a big taboo with adults being friends with younger people, it might be seen as pathologically strange insofar as people think it implies some sexual ulterior motive on the adult's part but without that assumption it might just be seen as strange without really being immoral or unjust). One issue some more conservative-minded people could have with it, even if this isn't necessarily the actual problem they have with it, lies in the idea that sex should bond people in a committed long-term monogamous marriage (or in some cultures that a polyginous men should have a complete monopoly over the sexuality of his wives, which is why it's shameful to be a slut and the sexualization of young women specifically degrades them at such a young age unless maybe they're being sexual for their older husband alone but across the board I think most of us are on the same page that marriage at a very young age is concerning so if you don't accept the validity of casual sex you'll probably have an issue with very young people being sexual) and some age-gap relationships realistically do not have a long-term future (not because it's 'just sex' from their point of view but because a 20 year old with an extremely lucky 50 year old would have to start worrying about caring for and preparing to lose her partner when she's in her 40s/50s, so I guess the idea could be that big age-gap unions aren't serious because the younger person would be throwing their life away, although you could make the same argument if they joined with someone in their own age bracket who has some kind of a medical condition that makes their dying in old age unlikely. Left-leaning people could have this concern, over the younger person 'throwing their life away,' but I think their grievance is basically with power imbalance or even traditional standards of beauty for women).
I hate to say it, and I don't assume that this is the underlying motive behind all anti-age gap arguments (it doesn't matter one way or the other, whatever case you make on any given issue should be seriously considered regardless of what your biases might be), but I can't honestly say that I don't think a lot of it has to do with some women wanting to police male sexuality and eliminate younger competition or push back against certain youth-based 'standards of beauty' for women. I think some, but not necessarily all, of the backlash against older women who 'exploit' teenage boys or younger men is a kind of rationalization after the fact because it's realized that legitimately condemning men for preferring younger women requires holding women to the same standard, either way I appreciate the consistency (not that I think consistency per se is inherently good, I would prefer some people be inconsistent with certain positions I would rather they not hold to begin with, but I don't like double standards either. Writing this out I realize I have to concede that a society where age-gap inclined men but not women are punished would be better than one where everyone is punished but I guess my point is at least they understand what their position implies, I don't know.
