Some members here have friends who worked in the country as early as the 1990s, and said that attitudes there were somewhat different, and made it easier for teachers to have open friendships with students.

How old are the students you mean?
In the Czech Republic, of course, a sexual or romantic relationship between a teacher and a student is condemned.
At the same time, however, people are relatively open (or just indifferent), and here sex is legal from the age of 15.

Yes, a big difference, 37+16 is a predatory student-teacher relationship in the US, and the media wheel out all the usual stuff about how it punished the "child's" grades, mental health, etc. US is an infantilised society.

I was referring primarily to the case of a teacher who was able to have casual social life with teen students, but this was in the 90s.

Thank you so much for sharing this testimony. From what I read, the Czech Republic is a rare (unique?) Western country which should be taken as an example. A real pedophile loves kids and thus is best suited, as caring parents are, to combat child crime and abuse. It shows how most of the Western world is completely blind, has it completely backwards, and thus is doing worse in terms of preventing child abuse.
