How can sexual abuse against children be prevented? And is it possible to treat those who commit abuse?

These are the questions Agatha Chronos explored in her doctoral thesis on the prevention of sexual abuse against children at the University of Bergen.

Her research shows that people with sexual attraction to children often live with severe stress, anxiety, and depression.

Many want help – but the fear of being exposed and met with rejection makes them afraid to seek treatment.

The key to reducing this barrier appears to be therapists who approach them with empathy and expertise.

This can be confirmed by psychologist specialist and researcher Pål Grøndal. He says that the enormous stigma tied to paedophilia can stand in the way of treatment.

The solution is to destigmatize pedophilia. Focus more on the secondary traits, like sex addiction, alcoholism, and mental illness to prevent offending than the pedophilia itself.

We don't fear being exposed, we fear being deshumanized, arrested, beat up, getting our life destroyed... over loving the "wrong" kind of people.

The answer is perhaps to discriminate.

Uhhh uhhh how do we fix this guys??

Letting people be themselves without judgement? Stop punishing younger and older people for their feelings and attractions towards each other and treating this as a mental illness.

THE ANSWER is in plain view but no one wants to address it because "weird" and "strange".

I have no intention of ever seeking therapy, despite wanting it, because of the fear of being reported despite breaking no laws. B4U-ACT and another organization have no vetted therapists near me so that isn't an option as I'm not risking trying to see if a therapist is willing to even condone my presence if they knew.

For as long as I fear being reported, investigated, having any and all of my electronics taken from me to make sure I'm not "abusing any children" (better to just toss them if you even do get them back), and being assumed guilty at every step - I will not seek any form of therapy besides my close-knit circle of MAP friends.

The risk of potentially losing my nice job, being outed to my entire, very anti-pedo, family (potentially disowned as well) is too high and thus not an option. So, congrats society you really are doing a good job with that.

The stigma is literally what’s killing us. But destigmatization is a tough pill for antis to swallow.
