PARIS — Chinese online retailer Shein has pulled from sale childlike sex dolls after they were found on its website by the French consumer watchdog, the company said Sunday.
France’s Directorate-General for Competition, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (DGCCRF) had said late Saturday that it spotted the dolls on the website along with several other pornographic items such as adult-looking sex dolls, and had reported the matter to judicial authorities.
“Their description and categorization on the site leave little doubt as to the child pornography nature of the content,” DGCCRF said in a statement.

On November 3, the Washington Post reports, “fast-fashion” retailer Shein banned sales of sex dolls on its site after a government regulatory agency threatened to bar the company from operating in France and referred it to prosecutors. Some of the dolls sold on Shein’s online platform were, it seems, too “childlike” in appearance.
I consider it lazy to assert, as many opinionators do, that “no one” supports, or “everyone” wants, this or that particular thing, but if there’s a subject that commands anything close to societal unanimity, it’s opposition to the sexual molestation of children.
Pretty much all of us who aren’t sexual abusers of children want sexual abusers of children stopped and punished. Many even advocate capital punishment as a permanent individual solution and future collective deterrent, and while I’m opposed to the death penalty myself, I do find the opinion understandable.
It’s odd, then, that so many opponents of child molestation also advocate for laws which increase, rather than decrease, the likelihood that someone with such tendencies will act, in that way, on those tendencies.

I just saw someone say this in the comments:
The claim that Shein sells "child sex dolls" is inaccurate and a misrepresentation of the actual controversy.
The reality is:
* Consumer groups in France have filed a legal complaint against Shein.
* The complaint focuses on the sale of certain children's fashion items (like provocative "bodysuits" and "dresses" with adult designs, cut-outs, or accessories).
* The accusation is that these items contribute to the "premature sexualization" of children, not that Shein sells explicit sex dolls.
* French prosecutors have opened a preliminary investigation based on this complaint.
In short: The issue is about inappropriate children's clothing and alleged early sexualization, not the production or sale of childlike sex dolls. The latter claim is a sensationalized distortion of the facts.
This is just one person saying this, but I would not at all be surprised if this was true.
I don't know how to do any actual research on this though.
