Pervert Tristan Shaughnessy has been jailed after he had sex chats with a 12-year-old schoolgirl. The 23-year-old - a dad-of-one - was aged 20 when he made contact with the child on several social media platforms including Tik Tok and Snapchat.

In the messages he described to the girl what he would like to do to her and she responded by asking what he would do if he got her pregnant. But her mum found her phone and contacted the police when she saw the messages.

Prosecutor Jamie Scott said the offending happened in 2022 when Shaughnessy was aged 20. Mr Scott said: "He was in communication with a 12-year-old girl. She would not support the prosecution.

"Her sister told her mother that the girl had been on her phone all night. The mum found the girl's phone hidden in her room. She found messages of sexual communication. She asked her daughter about the messages who said they were from a friend. The mum sent a message to the user of the other account which read, 'These messages are all with the police, never message my child again'. She contacted the police.

"The police attended her home. The messages showed she had been in contact with the defendant on Tik Tok from September 9, 2022 onwards. She had said she was 13. Shaughnessy said he was 20. In fact she was 12 at the time."

Recorder Smith said: "The 12-year-old was described by her mother as vulnerable. She thought she was in a relationship with you. She refused to cooperate with the police. You were stored in her phone contacts as My World.

"You started your communication with her on social media. You had sexualised conversation. She told you she was 13. In fact she was 12. But you knew full well she was underage and underage by a significant margin.

Stormy Ellison, 26, of Farmington, was arrested on Aug. 15, 2024, for one count of sexual indecency with a child. She pleaded not guilty to the charge in September 2024.

Ellison’s trial was initially scheduled to begin on Dec. 17; however, her case was closed on Dec. 10.

A court filing said her criminal charge was dismissed.

Washington County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Denis Dean said the reason for the charge being dismissed was that the victim in the case was unavailable and uncooperative.

Dean also said that “we could not independently prove our case without them.”
