A McDonald’s employee thought he was speaking to a 14-year-old girl about cuddling, masturbation and her body.

He was actually talking with a police online child exploitation investigator, and will now be intensely supervised for a year.

Grant Aitken, 40, avoided registration as a sex offender at his sentencing in the Christchurch District Court on Tuesday.

He was charged with exposure of a young person to indecent material after a conversation with an undercover police investigator.

Aitken’s conversation with “Chantelle”, the investigator’s fictitious teenage persona, was detailed in an agreed summary of facts.

Cases like these are horseshit. Even the judge commented there is no victim.

' Judge Quentin Hix noted there was no victim to the conversation, so “this is really punishing the intents in your mind” '
