Kansas child porn investigator Gayoso charged with producing child porn

Garrett Gayoso, 25, of Baxter Springs is charged with one count of sexual exploitation of a child in production of child pornography. He’s scheduled to be in federal court in Wichita next month.
Gayoso was charged last year in Massachusetts when authorities say he traveled there to have sex with a 16 year old girl he met online. At the time Gayoso was a Cherokee County deputy and in February 2025, he was promoted to the role of detective assigned to investigate online crimes against children.
He resigned from Cherokee County when the investigation started.
Federal authorities say he met the girl in August 2024, on a website meant for 18-year-olds. The girl told authorities she showed Gayoso her I.D. proving she was just 16. Investigators say despite that, Gayoso continued to communicate with the girl, exchanging sexually explicit messages and pictures.
