How is minor-attraction perceived where you live?

I am not quite sure because minor-attraction is not a common topic, but I'd say people in my zone perceive minor-attraction as something that anyone could "fall into", because people have a thing for the taboo.

It being perceived as something that affects only a few people may appear to be more accurate, but in fact it creates the idea of the "pedophile" as an "other". MAPs are no longer humans who have given to temptation, but deviates who deserve the worst. The same happenned to homosexuality; I think it was Foucault who pointed this out. In my opinion, antis are stronger in such places, but MAPs are also more likely to organize.

"A perversion that could potentially tempt anyone" is probably more explainable due to paranoia. The "normal" people start to finding pedo signs everywhere and suspecting that even their relatives may be one.

The people who are most conservative and bigoted see it as a temptation that could convert anyone, while the few progressive people where I am see it as a sign of deep sadistic and abusive tendencies that are practically inborn or natural, though some in favor of prison reform believe MAPs can 'recover' from their sexuality if they try hard enough (i.e. conversion therapy). They will also try their best to convince minor MAPs and their own loved ones that they aren't really MAPs and that they're just being groomed into a cult, so there's this belief in pedophilia as an innate and evil trait but that many people mistakenly believe they have, or else they think it simply doesn't exist at all and the only reason for attraction is the power imbalance. There's many more of the former than the latter, but the latter are louder in my experience.

Makes sense. I've seen young people online asking whether they are MAPs, and they are dismissed because the people they are attracted to are not much younger, so "that's normal" and the MAPs are just trying to recruit you. Some people can't fathom the idea of a child being a pedophile. But If You Know You Know, as is the case with every sexual minority.

The same misunderstanding happenning in families is a different matter. Doesn't surprise me, though.

Actually, I changed my vote to "mixed" because the "perversion that anyone can fall into" is more of a thing in the case of straight men towards teens. In the other cases, it's probably seen as either some type of disease that should be "cured", or maybe a sexual orientation (I don't know if I'm projecting my views when I say this).

Yeah, I've faced both myself at different points, but the former was definitely less convincing than the latter. Paper thin excuses related to cartoony content, suspicion from others in the group nonetheless, compared to well meaning and loving family. All of it is definitely a mindfuck though
