I've had so many posts recently that I've read, enjoyed but not had anything to say in response to. I just want to give them a "like".

Can we easily implement something like that?

I second this. I don't always have anything to say, but I'd like to let people know I'm still engaged with what they're saying.

Same here.
I understand the motivation of the lack of the "like" feature, that is - I think - to encourage users to participate to the conversation and to break the pattern of social networks that rely on instant gratification. But, in addition to what Fragment and PorcelainLark said, it could make the experience more accessible and inclusive for those who may not feel comfortable with expressing their thoughts verbally.
