The Florida teen accused of killing and dismembering a man, stuffing his remains in bags and leaving them in a desolate field targeted the victim because he was a registered sex offender, police allege in an amended affidavit.

On Friday, March 20, the girlfriend of Lucas Sander Jones told police she drove to his home in Indialantic, on the northern Florida coast, and found a chilling scene: black spray paint on the hallway wall, blood on the floor and in the tile grout and blood stains on her boyfriend’s jeans, the amended affidavit filed on Wed., April 1, alleges.

“I killed somebody and cut him up,” she said Jones, 19, allegedly told her, according to the amended affidavit.

Jones’ girlfriend told detectives with the Palm Bay Police Department that Jones murdered Colie Lee Daniel, 28, also of Indialantic, with a baseball bat and cut up his body with a cleaver, a saw and a knife “because he was a sex offender,” the affidavit alleges.

Jones’ girlfriend said she doesn’t know how Jones met Daniel, but that he had allegedly printed out a list of nearby sex offenders before the alleged murder, according to the affidavit.

Prime example why these registries shouldn't exist. They should at very least only be viewable by law enforcement (sort of like NCIC).

The victim here likely had more rights following their murder than when they were alive.

Reminder that if you ever are on the Florida registry, you will forever be on the Florida registry. It never goes away. Even if you temporarily visit, you will forever be on it even following your death.

Abolish the registry.
