There it is again...

So was talking to someone about how anime is weird sometimes. They mentioned how in this one anime this characters always half naked.....and she's just a "child" look up the character.....17 years old......

That's......not a child???? I'm really having a hard time biting my tongue. I mean I get it but really don't they act like some arbitrary age a day under 18 makes them a literal baby and not a fully developed character........

I reallyyyy wanted to be like "uh okay? They characters 17 that's hardly a child" but I legit cannot as that'd paint a HORRIBLE picture of me especially the way times are now I'd be a "pedo supporter" but how do you guys deal with casual interactions like that where someone says a character is a literal child when.....biologically they are not?

I avoid engaging with people like that entirely, the same way I avoid engaging with fundamentalist Christians. There's no winning. If you take part in the argument at all, you lose automatically. Best to just ignore them and find less hysterical people to associate with.

I can hardly believe that to be the case. Unless it's some complete stranger with a tendency for this I guess.

Well they are technically a child if they're under 18 by some definitions. So what they're saying isn't literally wrong, but I wouldn't focus on the specific word, rather the point they're making.

I guess what they mean is that it's weird to have an underage character always be half naked. I'd probably just make them think they're weird for making a big deal out of nothing if it were me. But that's because they're getting worked up over nothing, if you're also getting worked up, then it seems you both may have reason to take a step back and reflect on it first. Otherwise it sounds like your response would risk resulting in defensiveness or hostility, where I can't tell what productive effect it'd achieve, it might just be detrimental.

If they keep investing the grown ass teen is a LiTeRaL child I just end further discussion on that subject.

This is where I find the term "minor" quite useful. It refers to the actual legal status as it is in a particular place, and to nothing else.

And if we draw a biological line between child and adult, and consider a teen to be "in between", i would say a teen will often have more in common (mentally and bioloigcally) with a 25 year old than a 5 year old.
