Veteran Louisiana lawyer/lobbyist Jimmy Burland is charged with possessing child porn

Jimmy Burland, a veteran lawyer and lobbyist in Baton Rouge, was charged Friday with possession of child pornography, the U.S. Attorney’s office reported.
Between November 2022 and April 2023, Burland knowingly possessed pornographic images of children younger than 12, according to the bill of information, which is different than a grand jury indictment.

A bill of information typically means that a defendant has agreed to plead guilty and is cooperating with the government.
"We respect the process, and we will work through it as best as possible," said Don Cazayoux, Burland's attorney.
The Times-Picayune | The Advocate reported in April that federal authorities had just raided Burland’s office, a stone’s throw from the Capitol. Burland, a frequent presence during the annual legislative session, was not seen there this year.
While lobbying for a small group of clients, Burland is best known in political circles for assisting candidates in establishing campaign finance accounts and ensuring that they record the contribution and expenditure information accurately.
He mostly assisted Republicans.

Burland also plays guitar and writes songs, and his web page devoted to his music highlights a song of his called “Perspectives in a Coffee Shop.”
The website describes him as a Nashville recording artist who played rhythm guitar in a garage band in Houston at age 12 and played solo acoustic music at LSU. Burland was under investigation by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security – Homeland Security Investigations and the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation, Office of the Attorney General. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul L. Pugliese is prosecuting the case.
