until now we had the policy to allow user registrations on this board without any further validation. The intention behind this was to help users who feared leaving traces when registering a mail address somewhere. Downside for us was that we always had a share of bot accounts that we had ...

It has not been disabled, it is disabled for new users. Once you're out of moderation, you'll be able to set an avatar for your user.

The registration page of VoA is behind special protection. You have to have JavaScript enabled (and all browser-included protection disabled) in order to proceed ...
