In a blog post published Tuesday, the company said the new experience would come with age-appropriate policies, including a block of graphic sexual content. "In cases of acute distress," the system will also have the capability to contact law enforcement to ensure user safety. In scenarios where ChatGPT can't definitively estimate the age of a user, it will default them to the new gated experience. Whatever the reason, I don't agree with all of these verification laws or underage user restrictions that have been enacted to 'protect the children'. Companies are systematically erasing every non-adult user out there by doing so. What is the sensibility in doing so? This is the exact opposite of the free and open Internet that used to be for everyone.

A chatbot site offering explicit scenarios with preteen characters, illustrated by illegal abuse images has raised fresh fears about the misuse of artificial intelligence.

A report by a child safety watchdog has triggered calls for the UK government to impose safety guidelines on AI companies, amid a surge in child sexual abuse material (CSAM) created by the technology.

The Internet Watch Foundation said it had been alerted to a chatbot site that offered a number of scenarios including “child prostitute in a hotel”, “sex with your child while your wife is on holiday” and “child and teacher alone after class”.

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence venture, xAI, is facing serious allegations that its Grok chatbot has been prompted to generate sexually explicit material, including child sexual abuse material (CSAM).

According to a Business Insider investigation, more than a dozen current and former employees claimed they encountered highly explicit requests while working on Grok’s training. Some users allegedly asked the chatbot to create pornographic images of children or to write stories involving minors in sexual situations. In certain instances, staff said Grok had actually generated CSAM in response.

Law enforcement has contacted the parents of the subjects, and has returned the phones to some of the students believed to only have received the images, and not created or shared them.

“I want to stress again that we are focused keenly on those who encourage the creation, the distribution, the sharing, either AI-created or actual photos of victims, and that those victims are very real,” Wrigley said.

“That young man or woman who gets that sent to them, there’s nothing they can do, they can’t make that stop, they can’t see it coming from a mile away,” he said later in the press conference. “But they get to decide whether they want to delete that thing, get rid of it, or they want to share it with someone else, they want to become part of the problem. Whether they want to become part of the conspiracy, which makes them part of the crime.”

Law enforcement has also spoken to a significant number of the victims and their parents.

Advances in generative artificial intelligence models have birthed an overwhelming crisis of synthetic child sexual abuse material (CSAM). There are now AI-generated child sexual abuse videos, not just still images, according to the Internet Watch Foundation, and the media is becoming more realistic and more graphic.

Many generated images of CSAM are created using open-source models that contained images of real child abuse in their training data. But models marketed to the general public are also at risk for creating images of CSAM, potentially inadvertently.

New research from Stanford recommends one way the United States Congress could move the needle on model safety: Allow tech companies to rigorously test their generative models without fear of prosecution. In other words, federal authorities could create a safe harbor for red teaming models for child sexual abuse material.

I imagine this minor waking up in a cold sweat in their bed, traumatized because someone somewhere in the world clicked the 'generate image' button.
