LGBT MAPS and validity policing

Happy Pride Month!
Or at least that’s the message we hear for non-MAP LGBT people. For LGBT MAPS, we receive a double dose of stigma, first for being queer, next for being a MAP. To add injury to insult, this rejection for being minor-attracted comes not from just mainstream society, but LGBT people themselves.

We are in other words “validity policed”, with our minor-attracted being used to erase and deny the validity of our identity and place in the larger lgbt community. Instead of standing with ALL discriminated identities, LGBT community has decided to play respectability politics not just with MAPs, but MAPs within their own community.

They’ve joined in with the bullies, instead of standing with us. This doesn’t stop us from participating in Pride, and loving people of the same gender or celebrating our gender-identity, which is always decided by us, not any organization or individual can take away our lived experiences as queer people. Being LGBT doesn’t depend if you’re good or bad, law abiding or offending, it just IS.

The validity discourse is grating, but also a sign that queerness can not be gatekept forever.

The acknowledgement of these less fashionable groups will eventually lead to the formation of a new alliance, and it will become fashionable to back the underdog, at least for some.

This is the danger to the establishment. When the subjugated groups know who they are, and begin to cooperate with one another, correctly identifying that there is no upside to being played off against one another, and they have nothing to lose.

Let's not be unrealistic about the timeframe. This is something that will develop over decades, as the internet has killed the liberal paradigm of "progress".

I wouldn't call it respectability politics. It doesn't matter how serious or polite MAPs are, a large contingent of LGBT people will be hysterical about any comparison between societal attitudes towards LGBT people and MAPs.

If anything, I think it's the opposite. Their hatred of MAPs is a way for them to be politically incorrect in a community that closes any outlet for edginess. True respectability would be taking the rights of all marginalized groups seriously.

I'd argue participating in hatred, and stoking stochastic terrorism against MAPs is irresponsibility on the part of LGBT people. If you're a morally responsible person, you have to treat even the people you hate or who inconvenience you fairly. There's a serious immaturity of LGBT people who show off how much they hate MAPs. Even if you claim MAPs are evil, distancing yourself from MAPs because it will "hurt LGBT rights," shows you're motivated by self-interest not the protection of children. A principled person would support the rights of everyone, even if it means standing up to the mob.

I see this in a large number of MAPs who are, even as hebes, willing to stand up for nepis. Or willing to stand up for zoos. Even while not really understanding those modes of attraction.
