Transparency about who is a moderator

Post by PorcelainLark »

I was trying to add Artaxerxes II to my ignore list, but the site wouldn't let me because it said I can ignore moderators or administrators. Could there be a mark to indicate when a person is a moderator?

We mustn't have done the settings quite right because he's not part of the Global Moderators group. He is listed here, though. I'll look into it.

He had been added to Global Moderators but without removing him from Regular Members so there was no color change.

Follow up question, would it be possible to add global moderators to the foes list?

I don't think that would be appropriate, no.

If there are clear cases of harassment or abusive behavior you're welcome to use the report function and it's something the committee will discuss. But where it's a matter of just having a difference in values and of opinion, then that's something I'd rather members try their best to overcome without any kind of punitive action. We won't agree with each other all the time and there are some people whose posts we may just skim because we know their style is triggering. But in general we're here to learn from each other, as part of community that accepts all MAPs, regardless of how extreme or tame their views are.

What is the friends and foes function for, then? Also, if I'm going to be ignoring a person anyway, what difference does it make if the site hides the comments, or if I ignore them myself manually? For comparison, there is a moderator on AtF that I've refused to read the comments for weeks (possibly even months), even without being able to add him to my ignore list. If I come to the conclusion that a person is too wrongheaded so that arguing with them will go nowhere, I rarely see evidence that I was wrong in my assessment of that person.

So petty of you mate. I just disagreed with you once, and now you wanna ignore me? You should deal with disagreements maturely.

True, because thinking back on my debate with porcelain here I do think that I should've used better examples to illustrate my point. I think people should be given a second chance when it comes to debates, because part of debating also lies in learning from each other.
Plus, ignoring mods does set a bad example generally. But, if necessary, I won't reply to porc any further than now. I would rather have the community be conducive to learning than being a pit fight to see whose the rightest.

It's not about disagreeing with me, it's about how you expressed your disagreement. Also it wasn't the first time I've read something you wrote and had a low opinion of it.

I debate people all the time, I know a fruitless argument when I see one. I tried to the get the debate back on track multiple times before giving up.

You can have the community, I'm switching to essay writing.

You push my buttons one too many times, and I'll remember not to interact. You can be polite when arguing with me, or I'll stop bothering to engage. Judging by the style you write in and the way you think, I seriously doubt I have anything to gain by talking to you anyway. I try to not express myself in this aggressive style because I don't think it's healthy, but you started so I've responded. Maybe you should learn to be a little more tactful? That way you wouldn't find yourself in this situation.
