good day to yall. I just noticed there are kind of no discussions about such an important topic, and so I wanted to try and throw sth at the wall hoping it'll stick.
what are your thoughts on the wave of censorship? how do you feel? what do you think will happen?
i personally don't want to make any predictions but it is definitely bad. the fact that nsfw content is now being blocked for adults too is really... it's a big "fu.k you" sign, really. there's no hope we'll get our point across any time soon.
on the other hand, humans are known to ride the waves of puritanism-antipuritanism all the time. every few decades either another wave of censorship or another wave of overthrowing the censorship starts, so even if this current wave succeeds (which I'm afraid it will, for general public doesn't really care), there's a big possibility it will be eventually overthrown by younger generations in the near future. Imho!

I think we're once again being used as a scapegoat to justify censorship and control. At least it's not us exclusively though; we're getting it along with the usual "[Insert new form of media here] is bad and causing harm" rhetoric. Same old same old...

Re: The current wave of AI age verification and censorship overall
I stumbled upon this blog post from PornBiz.com(xvideos) about it.
But as for my personal thoughts, it's beyond dumb. And as we all knew it would, it extends beyond just porn. That was just the excuse they knew people would accept. Naturally I'm avoiding all this IDing like the plague.
But, as you said, this just might be what it takes to get some people to fight back against this puritanism.

I think the laws are going this way because we're in a perfect storm that will pass. I don't want to be political but I'm referring to a leader in the White House who seems happy to clamp down on freedoms online and offline, in the UK we have leaders who are destroying the right to protest and free speech, in Europe we have the far right and leader afraid to go against American will, and we have all this in Gaza and Israel creating an information war where free speech and media online is being crushed to block negative reporting, with other complicit states eager to support that clamp down to protect themselves.
But, everyone can see it because it's so obvious and visible. In the UK there's a new party that's formed around the most ethical politician in the country who's very much people first and anti-war, and the level of support that this new party is receiving is unlike anything I've ever seen in politics. Even Unions who are an integral part of the Labour party (in government) are conducting reviews for how to switch their funding and support from Labour to this new party due to its rapid rise in popularity and left agenda. My prediction is this movement isn't just a flash in the pan but is going to continue to gain momentum, will win the next election and will flip the narrative in the UK on its head completely including a return to people first policies and the gradual dismantling of the suerveilance state. How Corbyn hasn't been assassinated yet is beyond me.
I can't see the Republicans winning in the next election, hopefully the Democrats will be ethical or maybe a new party like Musk's will tip the scales. America does have some deep issues right now but hopefully the Democrats will bring sanity back to politics and also roll back some of the surveillance state....maybe not, but maybe.
With change in the US and UK, hopefully Europe will start to roll back its own draconian policies under pressure from the US and UK and others.
So I think the world will right itself and we will continue to be safe here, at least I hope so.
