people annoy me so much, i have a friend whos 20 and recently he started dating a 17 year old. hes literally the sweetest and nicest guy ever and ive seen some people calling him a "pedophile" and a "creep" for it

saying someones a pedophile for dating someone whos 17 is just so stupid. especially when they just got out of their teens a few months ago. its literally a 3 YEAR AGE GAP. it makes me so sad because hes super upset over it i wish i could tell him that id love him even if he was one

also the implication that being a MAP/pedophile is wrong in the first place... its just another way to spread more hate to us for simply being attracted to someone.

sorry for the rant im just so annoyed that people act like were terrible, evil people and then throw those labels at someone doing literally nothing wrong

There's a girl I know who's 17 and has a boyfriend 16 and she's joked how when she turns 18 she could adopt him. Teenagers find the whole situation as dumb as well. Many teenagers have sex below the age of consent and date people above and below, the law is seen as an ass and largely irrelevant. Telling a horny teen to wait until they're 18 when they'll magically gain wisdom is like telling a 20 year old to stop masturbating until they're 40 when they'll gain the wisdom of their ancestors or telling a 40 year old to stop eating meat until they're 60 when they'll gain the wisdom of meat eaters. Laws don't change reality, they just highlight the idiocy of law makers.

Spot on. 17 is a joke. There are several places in the world where it’s fairly accepted to see girls much younger than that dating far older adult men and many people don’t care about it. So at least it isn’t an attitude that you find everywhere.

All I can say is that age gaps have been weaponized and are the common source of moral panic these days. Even though 2-3 year age gaps are common, even that seems like a huge point of contention nowadays on the Internet.

People like to use that term generically (which I do not like mostly because I am pedant to an extent). I don't know the location but generally 17 is at or above the AoC is many areas. People have this idea that age gap relationships are bad and they are not. When I was in HS there was a guy I knew who dated a 8th grader in his Junior year and we used to joke with him about putting in the car seat in his car when he had to take his gf anywhere.

I do agree with others that its moral panics. I was 19 when I was with my first gf and she was 17 and no one batted an eye but she was also above the AoC for where I live so maybe that was why but that was never a big deal. I mean I knew a girl in HS who went to some college every weekend and got railed by her college boyfriend and no one batted an eye either.

It is silly. Girls do generally date older guys and guys younger gals. If they were a bit older then no one would say a thing, it's only because it's around an age line something dreamt up. They're doing nothing wrong, nothing different to what people their age have done for thousands of years.
