Castration in the news

Louisiana's new surgical castration law took effect on August 1st. It will allow judges to order the surgical castration of people who engage in AMSC with young people under the age of 13.

Really pushing The Push here.

Other lovely laws to take effect in that state include a prohibition on teachers discussing sexual orientation and gender identity with students.

If you want to live in Louisiana, you'd better be a straight white man!

In that case it would Oophorectomy or surgical remove of the ovaries.
Fragment wrote: Sat Aug 03, 2024 9:23 am But this law is, at least, limited to children under 13. Though it is not limited to cases of violence or coercion. That's bad. I don't even know exactly how to feel about castration in the case of violent rape against pre-pubescent minors. In some ways I don't feel any sympathy for people that deliberately hurt children. Yet, as a precedent I think it's pretty dangerous. We're reverting to barbaric primitive punishment when we decide to take surgical measures against offenders. How is this any different to cutting off the hands of thieves?
The issue I have with laws like this and the death penalty is that there is a chance of error and an innocent person is harmed. For example if I am sentenced to prison for a crime I didn't commit do some time and then the legal system finds out I didn't commit the crime I can be exonerated. That doesn't make up for the time I am in prison but a wrong can be corrected and I can be a free man again. The same can't be said if I was executed for a crime then it was found out that I didn't commit it. They can't press the "Return to life" button and I come back like nothing happened. Same with castration that can't be reserved if it was found the person charged was innocent.

Even if there was a way to never have any innocent people harmed I would oppose them.

Italy opens door to chemical castration for rapists and pedophiles

Post by Artaxerxes II »

https://www.politico.eu/article/italy-g ... offenders/:
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s right-wing coalition government wants to look tough on law and order.

ROME — Italy moved on Wednesday toward legalizing chemical castration, with MPs approving the creation of a committee that could draft laws on treating violent sex offenders with androgen-blocking drugs.
The lower house of parliament in Rome passed a motion which said the treatment should be consensual, reversible and with the aim of reducing the risk of re-offending. It has committed the government to establishing the relevant committee.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s right-wing administration is attempting to look tough on law and order. Since it came to power in 2022, her government has introduced legislation establishing dozens of new crimes and increased penalties.
Meloni has spearheaded the redevelopment of Caivano, a disadvantaged town on the edge of Naples, which became a symbol of criminality and deprivation after the gang rape of two preteen cousins, which five people were convicted over. Meloni said earlier this month that security was her “priority” for the next few months.

The far-right League, part of Meloni’s governing coalition and which has made establishing a law on chemical castration for pedophiles and rapists a key part of its platform, put forward the motion. Under the League’s proposals convicted sex offenders could receive a suspended sentence in exchange for undergoing hormone blocking treatment.

League chief Matteo Salvini welcomed the news, writing on X: “Victory for the League! … Good. Another important step forward for our historic battle for justice and common sense: zero tolerance for rapists and pedophiles.”

But opposition groups called the proposals “extremist” and “in violation of humanity and justice.”
MP Simona Bonafè of the opposition center-left Democratic Party said the League’s proposal was “unconstitutional … undermining the foundation of our legal system that has overcome the use of corporal punishment for centuries.”
The Green and Left Alliance criticized the League’s “endless vocation for repression.”
Enrico Borghi from the centrist Italia Viva party wrote on social media, “What’s next? Tar and feathers, or rope and soap?”
Chemical castration consists of the administration of drugs that inhibit the release of hormones that stimulate the testicles to produce testosterone, thus decreasing libido.

Mandatory chemical castration is permitted in Russia and Poland and some U.S. states for certain crimes. But there are also doubts about its effectiveness in preventing re-offending and experts say it can have physical and psychological side effects. Feminist groups have warned that the reasons behind violent sex crimes such as rape are not unstoppable sexual urges, but cultural factors.
The current Italian Justice Minister Carlo Nordio opposed similar proposals in 2019 before entering government, saying they were “a return to medieval times.”

Brazil: House approves bill that provides for chemical castration for those convicted of pedophilia

Post by Artaxerxes II »

The House of Representatives approved this Thursday, the 12th, a bill that provides for chemical castration for people convicted of pedophilia. The rule was included based on an amendment proposed by Congressman Ricardo Salles (Novo-SP). According to the text, the offender will need to use libido-suppressing medication.

The proposal, which received 267 votes in favor, 85 against and 14 abstentions, will now go to the Federal Senate. The victory was celebrated by opposition members and supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL). The government, the PSB and the PSOL were against it, in a tumultuous session between PT members and Bolsonaro supporters.

Bolsonaro supporters stated that those who were against the proposal would be "protecting pedophiles and rapists". Talíria Petrone (PSOL-RJ) says that the proposal "will not be effective in protecting children". "Sexual violence in Brazil is an epidemic, a tragedy", she states.

The amendment was included in a bill authored by Congressman Aluisio Mendes (Republicanos-MA) that determines the creation of a national registry of pedophiles on the internet, which will contain information and images of people convicted of crimes related to the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents. The National Council of Justice (CNJ) will be responsible for compiling this data.

At the end of October, the National Congress approved a bill that creates a registry of pedophiles and people convicted of sexual crimes. The public registry will contain the name and Individual Taxpayer Registry (CPF) of the convicted people.

The law was partially vetoed by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who blocked the section that keeps the data for public consultation for a period of 10 years. As justification, the presidential veto states that "the measure is unconstitutional" by making information available for a period beyond the sentence served.

According to the message, this section violates the principles of proportionality, due process, human dignity, the physical and moral integrity of the convicted person, and the rights to privacy, private life, honor, and image. The Ministries of Justice, Women, Human Rights, the Attorney General's Office, and the Public Defender's Office were consulted.

The bill approved this Thursday is part of the public security package, supported by the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL). He delegated to the president of the bullet caucus, Alberto Fraga (PL-DF), the task of selecting the proposals that would be voted on this week.

Following the news that an American paedophile is set to have his testicles removed as part of a plea deal, Labour have also been eyeing up a similar law here in the UK

I find it "amusing" how the article ends on a dangerous slippery slope.
Anyway, these seem to me like responses from third-world countries; I wonder what happened to human rights. Rape, assuming it is indeed rape, is obviously a horrific crime, but I find castration worse than the rape itself.

In many jurisdictions, the definition of statutory 'rape' can be nothing more than an adult performing consensual oral on a minor under a certain age. Never assume that any kind of force, violence, or coercion was involved.

It feels like everywhere in world is speed running how quickly they can get back to the middle ages. I wouldn't be surprised if they reinstated the death penalty at this point. People have lost touch with their humanity.

I’m noticing this happening in my country as well.
Before, in my country there was a law against child pornography, which banned both real material and anything that could be mistaken for material involving real subjects. A few years ago, they added an ambiguity to the law, so that potentially any fictional image (like drawings or 3D models) could fall under it, depending on the context.

At first, there was an arrest where hentai was used as an aggravating factor, while just a few days ago the distribution of a hentai was considered to be distribution of child pornography. (The justification given was that the recipient of the material was a minor, and those defending the ruling said that such content could negatively affect the psychological and sexual development of the minor. A minor who was definitely older than 14, since there was no crime related to grooming.)

It wouldn’t surprise me if, a few years after the ban on pornography for minors, there ends up being a rise in the age of consent.

The 10s were all about authenticity in branding and marketing.

Working downstream, politics is now seeking authenticity.

But, because no one alive has really seen authoritarianism, we are in this flux state of confusing reactionism with authenticity. Without thinking about the consequences of empowering moralistic clowns as our guardians and lawmakers.
